But I'm betting that you voted for him against Trump in 2020 and that you would vote for him against Trump or any other republican in 2024.
Wrong. See bolded.
I wouldn't ever vote for Trump for President but as it stands I would vote for any of the other Republican front-runners over Biden-Harris.

But you would vote Biden over Trump.

Yes as I have made clear.

Of course, take with a healthy grain of salt... I'd vote for GoodOwl over Trump.

For the record, I would vote for any other republican over Trump. If it's Trump versus Biden again, I will almost certainly vote Libertarian again.

RE: Trump's arrest.
Until the Libertarian party gets enough strength to actually carry at least one state, in the Presidential election they work to the advantage of the Democrats, as most of the voters they siphon away would have voted Republican. Witness the statements above.

So, let me ask all the people here who claim they would vote Republican unless the nominee is Trump, how would you rank the candidates if we had Lad's ranked voting?

Would it be :
Libertarian, Republican (Trump), Democrat (Resulting in a vote for Trump)
Or:
Libertarian, Democrat, Republican(Trump) (Resulting in a vote for the Democrat)

Personally, while I don't think Trump is a good choice in 2024, I think Trump (in office) is better for the country than any Democrat that could possibly get the nomination.

So my intent is to vote for somebody I like better than Trump in the Texas Republican primary. Could be DeSantis, Haley, Christie, Scott, almost anybody that might be running, But most likely it will be the one most likely to beat Trump for the nomination.

Then in November, I plan to vote for the nominee that represents the agenda that I think best for the country - even if it is Trump.

I am more against putting in another liberal Democrat than I am against putting in Trump again, because I think the Dem will damage our country more. Truly I will be voting for the lesser evil, while most of you will be de facto voting for the greater evil.

In the above, if there is 'ranked voting', mine would be Libertarian.

As for the bolded, that is in your estimation, mind you.

I think the choice between Trump and Biden is equally as bad, but bad in different aspects.

I too 'in November, [] plan to vote for the nominee that represents the agenda that I think best for the country'. Thus the non-vote in a stark choice between Trump and Biden.

I understand. We will both be voting on principle. For me, it is more about the agenda than the man.

I think we would both be happy to vote vote somebody who followed Trump's agenda but is not named Trump.

When I say agenda, I mean tax policy, foreign policy, policy on things like gun laws, environmental policy, social policy. I mean the laws they will pursue. Trump has a record on that. Biden does too. I prefer Trump's record.

Would not be the first time we elected somebody with less than impeccable morals. 1996 comes to mind. So does 2020. So does 1964, 1968, and 1972.

Also, the VP plays a part. If we elect Biden again, I expect Harris to be President before 2028. One way or another. At least she has a nice smile. We don't know who Trump's VP would be, but I am sure I would prefer him/her to Harris.

There is an old saying that comes to mind:

"Don't cut off your nose to spite your face".

That's the way I see all these "any Republican but Trump" votes. JMHO.

When it comes down to it, we are each just one vote in a large state. I certainly hold/will hold no animosity toward people who see things differently. I think all of us here are just discussing our rationale for our choices.

You seem to think it is all about you. I think there are a lot of people who would not see the humor there. Mostly Democrats. Especially Democrats who think the President and his party hold little or no responsibility for the current economic problems. If the President and Congress are just helpless riders on the economic wave, why elect them?

In any case, you seem very thin-skinned and eager to take offense on anything I post. AND you go quickly to the adhoms. Always eager to do battle with the evil OO.

Luckily I have thicker skin, especially for a grump.

Now I have important medical things to attend to. No time for this.

As I expected from most of the people taking the Libertarian option. Maybe all of them.

Either way it is advantage Biden.

One of the reasons I hope Trump is not the GOP nominee. He splits the Republicans, and the Dems get to elect anybodybuttrump...again.

IAC, thanks for your reply.

In a Trump vs Biden scenario, my vote in Texas isn't going to swing the state.

If I thought it would, I MIGHT vote for Trump. It depends on how aggressive 'progressives' were in supporting Biden.

But I'd vote for ANY Republican but Trump in the primaries... because he brings out more left voters to vote against him than he does right voters who wouldn't otherwise vote.

This thread IMO supports that belief

In some aspects, for me, the man matters. That is who at the helm and moves the levers is important.

Example --- when you have a President and CEO of an investment group or hedge fund, an important requirement is how the fund operates and produces profits. No doubt.

No doubt I would not support an oaf or a buffoon that cant move the fund or endeavor into profitability.

If the successful CEO is also trying to, through shady (let alone illegal maneuvering), trying to ace any and all investors out of the fund for purpose of his own power, I would have very serious second thoughts about that person at that position.

Kind of a double hurdle for me, where each step is a requisite.

It isnt an 'either/ or' in my book. It is a two step requirement.

Quote:I think we would both be happy to vote vote somebody who followed Trump's agenda but is not named Trump.

If the issues are strictly limited to tax policy, foreign policy, policy on things like gun laws, environmental policy, social policy, and I would include Federal court nominees, you hit the above spot on.

Quote:When I say agenda, I mean tax policy, foreign policy, policy on things like gun laws, environmental policy, social policy. I mean the laws they will pursue. Trump has a record on that. Biden does too. I prefer Trump's record.

The analysis changes when instead of focusing on the "laws they will pursue", to the "laws they will break in the pursuit". Trump has a record on that. Biden does too. I dont prefer Trump's record over Biden in that regard.

Quote:Would not be the first time we elected somebody with less than impeccable morals. 1996 comes to mind. So does 2020. So does 1964, 1968, and 1972.

"Impeccable morals" is seemingly a soft shoe reference to scheming to short circuit the Constitution, mind you.

As for the cited years, conspiring to short circuit a Constitutional process doe not readily equate to, in order, receiving a blow job from an intern.

Yes, 1968 and 1972 might be comparable if one had a magic time machine and knew a priori that that one would actively obstruct justice and help coverup a crime to benefit his continued Presidency. No one in 1968 or in had a notion to vote according to those events that would *be* revealed in 1973 and led to the only resignation of a President under not a cloud of 'bad morals' but one of abuse of power and violation of the Constitution.

Maybe 2020, lets see how any investigations turn out more specifics. That is to the granular level we seem to have a posteriori knowledge of the choices both in 2016 and 2020 --- for both candidates in each of those election. And at the expense of being blunt, the facts surrounding Trump's 'lets try to short circuit the election results of 2020' seem far sharper at this point in time than those surrounding 'the Big Guy', mind you.

Interestingly since you include perfect foreknowledge for 2020, 1968, and 1972, perhaps you should include 2016 in that as well.

Quote:Also, the VP plays a part. If we elect Biden again, I expect Harris to be President before 2028. One way or another. At least she has a nice smile. We don't know who Trump's VP would be, but I am sure I would prefer him/her to Harris.

I assume this time around Trump will put in a person who wont necessarily disagree with him on a way to circumvent the election results on a fiat basis. I assume that is a #1 priority on Trump's checklist going forward.

Quote:There is an old saying that comes to mind:

"Don't cut off your nose to spite your face".

There is another old saying -- 'try to stay away from electing folks who try to short circuit election results on a fiat basis.'

Quote:That's the way I see all these "any Republican but Trump" votes. JMHO.

Thats the way I see the efforts of trying to downplay the documented very troubling items about Trump into the softer, more palatable 'moral issues', or 'he offended people' to justify voting for Trump. Much easier to do that than say, 'yeah, he tried to short circuit the election process into having him declared winner by fiat, but aside from that he is okay.'

Getting over that truthful first statement is a barrier for some. Approaching it in the much softer 'he has moral issues' is the much better marketing campaign.

Honestly, employing that level of soft sell might, to many, be equivalent of noting that 'Madoff? Just some accounting irregularities....'.

Quote:When it comes down to it, we are each just one vote in a large state. I certainly hold/will hold no animosity toward people who see things differently. I think all of us here are just discussing our rationale for our choices.

Nor I.

Jim Jones would be so proud of y'all.

It is interesting that the response to a flat statement of opinion is met with a j-ckass ad hom attack statement. Good for you.

Hopefully getting that little bit of vitriol and hate out of you in response to a flat statement of opinion has made your dark little outlook and persona just a little brighter......

Ham, with respect, you and the others live in a bubble so far removed from regular American citizens...nice for you, but hurting American citizens, families and children is all your attitude is doing. At least OO relates to regular people, and is willing to put their overall interest ahead of any petty feelings that might get hurt.

Yes, he is not a perfect man (neither are you, I or anyone here), and yes he willingly pokes at the Crazy Left and it's destructively harmful and often outright evil ideology and actions every single chance he gets. Thank goodness someone is willing to stand up to them publicly and unapologetically and call them out to their faces. He doesn't need them or like them and their poor wittle egos can't stand it they'll do anything to stop him, even throw out our country, our Constitution and all our legitimate citizenry just to keep their illusion and get their way. He actually lost money as a politiciain...how's about Turtle, Pelosi, Hunter/Joe Crime Family, Ryan, Cheney, Schitmer, Schift, et al?

Nope, most of America voted for an imperfect but steadfast man who had their backs 100% the whole time rather than the lying bought-off cowards and charlatans they had been presented with umpteen times before as they continued their grift and did almost nothing for the American Citizen but disdain them. Americans will gladly take their imperfect knight, dinged though he may be over the commies and the commie-lites any day of the week.

You, the other posters here, and almost all of Legal American Citizenry were doing so much better just a few years ago, but you'd rather spite your face and further destroy good solid American families and children. Got it. Your stated modus operandi hurts good American families and American children far more than holding your nose and pulling for someone who isn't perfect but who's election would help most all American families and children and put our enemies back into their corners. Your virtue-signalling is incredible. He brings so much more to the table than he takes away.

The problem is not that he brings more votes against him, the problem is the fraudsters that have infiltrated our nation and destroyed our elections are allowed to go unpunished and un-outed by the left and the collaborators on the right.

Almost no one in power has legitimately looked into or seriously attempted to find out or stop or prosecute the myriad inconsistencies, irregularities and impossible results...why? Because they almost all make too much money to look the other way and point to orange man as the scapegoat, when they know he's the only major figure that has and can stand up to them. They are very afraid of President Trump. That is crystal clear. And he knows it. and they hate it, and they hate themselves, so they take it out on America.

Most good legal American citizens would vote for a can of $hit over any Dem or RINO. President Trump may not be perfect, but he's far above the can of $hit-level people who are downstream choices (bought and sold already by the globalists and America-haters), whether his party or otherwise. And everyone knows it on all sides. President Trump is good for legal America and their economic well-being. Who gives a crap about his personality? personality doesn't put food on our kid's tables.

The POS Bushes and their leftover ilk are and have been hurting Americans and our country as much as, if not sometimes more than, the Dems...at least the Dems are willing to tell us openly they wish to destroy our country and freedoms. We vote for what is good for America. Bring on the mean tweets. We can deal with it, and our bank accounts and refrigerators certainly can and will prosper as well.

And I think he turns away many people who might be otherwise inclined to vote for the agenda and then decide not to based upon his actions.

A candidate that enhances the reaction with the opposition is a liability of one kind.

A candidate that enhances the chances of chasing away people who otherwise would vote for 'their side' as an agenda is a liability unto itself apart from the above.

It is a singular candidate that wraps both tacos into one meal.

I think absolutely this thread supports both sides above.

I dont understand the ability of the current Republican party to do this so expertly. For example, in the Arizona Gov. race, the Repub candidate expressly told the McCain faction/ supporters to "get the hell out".

Then proceeded to lose a very close election.

Not the smartest thing to do. But it seems de rigueur on part of certain styles of Republicans. Kind of Maoist in a look, a real 'purity test' cleansing seems to be sweeping the Republican party.

Dont know if it is a healthy thing or not.
