Yes we have to trust Doc Sander with this. Here's to winning the SoCon next year!

Dear (apparent) Coach Savage, here is my wish list :
If you are able to convince most of the current roster to remain, a point guard, a shooting guard and a center (all graduate or junior or senior transfers).

Thank you

I would settle for two shooting guards, as long as they can do both...shoot, and guard.

Yes and emphasis on a point guard. Get those transfers in here, get the players to buy in and play for each other and I believe we will see an incredible turn around next year similar to what the women's coach did this year. Go Bucs!

RE: Head Coach Savage
Very underwhelming hire IMO. We haven't seemed to learn our lesson that ETSU is too big of a job for first time head coaches. See Shay and Oliver, neither were ready for this. I know that Doc and Brooks are very close and I am assuming that Doc will provide every resource to him to help him be successful with being "like a son/his guy" or whatever moniker you want to put with it. But I will be very surprised if we are not in the exact same position in 2-3 years. ETSU is not a job for first time head coaches. But here we go.

03-confused

A ho hum hire in my humble opinion. Maybe I am too old and cynical.

It would be great to see the list of applications but I guess most of them would not want that to be shown. We just have to trust Doc on this one.

RE: Head Coach Savage
I'm just a fan, with no inside knowledge, but I'm optimistic about the hire. Assuming Sanders did his homework, has a pulse on what is going on in college basketball and vetted all the candidates including Savage.
However, its is a little strange that they went "back to the well" once again with this hire. The Forbes well. I wonder what kind of advice Shay had for him? Kinda surprised that anyone from that core staff would give ETSU another look, after the debacle that unfolded during Shay's year here.
Looking forward to the future and what Coach Savage brings to the table. I'm ready for a competitive team to be playing in a raucous Freedom Hall, once again.

It could be we are still suffering from the kneeling fiasco. Coaches may not be interested..

As long as Savage runs a coherent offense (which neither Shay or Oliver did), I am confident that he will recruit well enough to win here. Sander knows Morrell, Savage, and the current players better than anyone on here. With his track record of good decision making, I trust that this is the best move.

Still curious if we talked to anyone else such as Morrell or Spradlin? This quote makes me think we didn't.
"ETSU wanted to act quickly because the NCAA's transfer portal opened on March 13 and the university didn't want its new coach to be behind in recruiting."

I do hope this is the right move.

I love this hire. One would think Hugley will also remain on the staff which is a huge bonus in my opinion.

Savage is an excellent recruiter and offensive mind. I don't envision any of the core pieces leaving

Anyone who doubts this hire will be pleasantly shocked! Home run hire by the Doc. This should have been the guy when Shay was brought on but he was to young. This is where the talent really was. Can not wait to have a coach with a presence in the community as well. Savage will open up and lead this team off and on the court unlike Oliver and Shay. The glory days are coming!

I am hoping Sanders comes thru as before. My first impression of all of our candidates has been underwhelming to me. Having said that I am hoping for the best no matter who is our coach.Keeping an open mind. Fanbase has been through it.

Unless there are major issues locally internal to the university or not big enough to really get attention outside of Johnson City, I'm thinking probably not.

As an ETSU Alumni who lives several hours away but still in the state, I can tell you right now that Chattanooga and Knoxville area media did a bit of coverage when it happened, and since then have pretty much forgotten about it.
