RE: Head Coach Savage
Just a couple of tidbits............

I did confirm, as posted by ETSU4Life earlier in this thread, that Savage was the acting HC in Wake's win against Ga Tech. So, if one wants to count that (I don't really), one could make the case that Savage is 1-0 as a HC.

Also..........the lost feed from WJHL's coverage of the press conference yesterday means it's likely that WJHL's crew has been responsible for the set-up, and thus the repeated losses, of the feed on WXSM's radio broadcasts, which happens approximately 1.7 times/game. It's been unfathomable why that continues to happen. There *must* be some sort of systemic reason, so maybe this is it. 03-lol

That was actually what I interpreted from his demeanor yesterday, but wasn't gonna say it. Does this mean Savage is trying to lasso in McCray and/or Taylor? Or has already done so???
And while I don't have any inside information, it wouldn't surprise me to see Oliver's son de-commit soon.

King hitting the portal is great news. Selfish player on the court and locker room.

How many games did he outright lose or seal a loss with selfish play and bad decisions? Oliver couldn’t rein him in and it contributed to his firing. I’ve never seen an ETSU player have so much swagger with so little to back it up. Adios!

Yes I think the new coach is not going to allow that type of play. Jordan is a good shooter if used properly but this year he was just not in control by the coaches.

It was quite a few. Strictly guesstimating............he was probably the largest factor in maybe 6-7(?) losses this season, but the winning factor in like 3-4(?).
But last year I think he came out to the good. Maybe lost 2-4, and won 4-5? That's strictly from memory and gut feeling - not looking at any stats or anything. I think he became analogous to what I posted earlier - a lot like Timmy and bartow. Oliver couldn't really control him, but he also needed him - both for scoring and for D. Without the Brewers, etc., and with all the injuries, he tried to, and *had to*, do too much. Sort of a Faustian deal, sadly.

This team will be better off without King. Guy can score, but very selfish as many of you have mentioned. Plus I like Savage building around Haynes.

RE: Head Coach Savage
I know he had individual meetings with them the last two days (he stated that on the monster yesterday), and I don't think he was chasing King off. All the same, I'm fine with him moving on. He had some talent, but all of it was on the offensive end. Defensively he stunk. Someone above mentioned if used in the right way he could be effective, and I 100% agree with that. All the same, we can do better. I mean, compare him to Isaiah Tisdale...

I'll be interested to see what happens with Haynes & Taylor. Haynes is a big 6-8, but Forbes typically liked to get a 7 footer or near 7 footer in here as center. So I wouldn't be surprised if that happens, meaning he may split time next year. That would likely be a good thing. Also, what will happen w/ Ilic? The thing about Haynes is that I'm not sure he's in that good of shape.

Of the remaining players I think the guy with the most upside is Seymour. He's an X factor, can shoot from distance, can rebound, and can play some defense. I like his attitude, and he seems to work hard.

Haynes could be even better with someone to share the load down low. He got fitter as the season progressed but he could develop a truly elite body with a strong off season. Forbes had an awesome strength & conditioning program. They did that thing with the ROTC which seemed to be amazing for their conditioning and camaraderie. Would love to see Savage get that going again.

Yes bring in another big to go with Jalen and with Josh and Jaden we will have one of the best front courts in the SoCon. If Coach can get some talented guards to transfer in I thing we can have a team competing for the championship next year!

What was Savage making at Wake as an assistant? He must have great faith in the HC opportunity to take it for pennies.

Yes that salary looked very low but I think it is full of possible bonuses that Coach can get. I have a feeling he is going to get a lot of those bonuses next year and if he really wins pretty we all know that Doc will get the private donors to greatly grow the compensation package.

More than Forbes made starting off. Savage knows if he gets the job done, we will pay him.

Absolutely. The money will be there. Oliver brought more experience to the table and was compensated (overly it turns out) for it. Forbes was up to $650k by the end.

One way to look at this: Sander is not going to pay someone substantially unless they prove they can win. Once they do, they get compensated. It's a crazy idea, really!! Lol. Good grief, Carter was terrible! I always thought paying Oliver $325K was high, this just proves that fact.

Haynes is in the portal, I'm told. I did like Haynes, but always felt he was out of shape. I really don't know why he wants to leave, unless he just doesn't really want to work.

Nobody wants to stay apparently. The times of collegiate athletics right now. Well burn it all the way down then. Find some hungry guys out of the portal and offer loads of playing time. The portal s a two-way street.

Pretty much that's what Brooks said yesterday on the monster. The portal can offer a lot of opportunities for guys, and he used several that had done well here, including Ge'Lawn Guyn, Tevin Glass, Hanner Mosquera-Perea, Deuce Bello, and Luke D'Guessan who had found their way here while not playing so much at other stops.
