UF isn't and probably hasn't ever been interested in the ACC (I know you know this), for historical and cultural reasons. Even if they were offered, say, $20M more per year over their current lucrative deal. They make fun of the ACC more than just about any other program (perhaps second only to USCe). I know this first-hand!

Actually the ACC had extensive conversations with Florida in the 70's and from what I have been told were very close to joining the ACC.

Yes, I was actually going to type "except perhaps pre-80's/90's when they were comparatively unsuccessful and aspiring to be nationally prominent". Everything has changed since then and I suspect leaving the SEC wasn't ever seriously entertained. Their fan base, then and now, would have not been happy.

Florida and Georgia (and Penn) were in discussions with the ACC right after it was founded as well. If that went down, I doubt the ACC ever deemphasizes football.

Yeah i hear you...i just don't see how things from 50-60 years ago affect anything today on this issue. It's just a fun, hypothetical "What IF?" topic. UGA and UF are die-hard SEC programs now and both have come a long way since those days (especially UF). The ACC has zero chance at acquiring a P2 right now. That ship sailed decades ago. Maybe there was a slim hope 15 years ago.

They all have a reason or three to want another Sunshine State school in the SEC. And then what's the point of UF being the lone hold-out. That wouldn't do them any political favors. UF will yell "yea" the loudest of all, whether they're 100% behind it or not.

I am still not convinced about this. Yes I get that the SEC schools would like to have another Florida team in their league. But that’s not the only thing. We all know ESPN has to pay for it.

Back in 2011, the SEC was looking for the 14th member. FSU was available. It wanted the invitation badly. The GoR was NOT standing in the way. And then what happened?

Yes that’s more than 10 years ago. Florida is booming and people say the market is less important (but is it true?).

But at the same time, the bar for the SEC entry got higher. They are comfortable at 16. FSU has not been that great lately. Its football attendance is below the SEC average.

I know there was reporting that the BIG had considered FSU but had the SEC commish ever mentioned FSU?

This should always get called out. FSU's attendance would skyrocket overnight if schools like Boston College, Wake Forest, Syracuse, Pitt, Duke, etc, etc were replaced with Alabama, UGA, Tennessee, Auburn, LSU, South Carolina, Texas, A&M, Oklahoma, etc. FSU actually does pretty well with butts in seats given the less-than-stellar ACC matchups. And against a lot of programs with smallish fan bases that don't travel. We can argue over other points but the attendance issue is moot. Doak would be rocking in the SEC...home and visitor sections alike. And there's lots of schools who haven't been "great lately". Most, in fact. UGA was in that category for decade upon decade...but they're a juggernaut now.

Sure FSU fans would blame the ACC schools for the low attendnace. Clemson anyhow managed to have 80K+ attendance.

The SEC’s average attendance last year was 76.5K. With Texas and OU number included the average would be increased to 78.5K. FSU has to sell out every game to barely beat the SEC average.

If you actually think FSU's season average wouldn't change dramatically just by joining the SEC, I don't know what to tell you. And even when cherry-picking Clemson - who is by far the top performer in the ACC over the past decade - they're a disappointing 14th place in attendance in '22. 80K is piss poor by B1G/SEC standards for any of their upper echelon programs. I'm not really sure why this is even debatable.

Cheers...i tend to often agree with you...just not on this!

I do think FSU’s season average would go up in the SEC. I just don’t think FSU to the SEC is such a sure thing.

In my view, FSU has a much better chance at BIG as it would bring a new attractive market. If and when ND decides to join the BIG, the BIG would invite one or three more schools. Oregon, Washington and Stanford are vying for the last golden ticket(s). But if I were the BIG, I would take ND, Stanford, GT and FSU (or Miami). This move would make the BIG as a true national conference covering all the major TV markets and also crush the ACC.

Fair enough but a totally different subject than the SEC instantly improving Doak’s attendance numbers. It would be a dramatic compound increase due to both more FSU interest and larger football-first conference mates showing up in droves. It would be sellout city on the regular. I do agree that the B1G is a likely option, more so than most think, especially as time goes by.
