Bowling Green - whose program was discontinued just a couple years ago - knocked off fifth-ranked Louisville this weekend. Terrific job by Kyle Hallock.

RE: 2023 Baseball
Cruikshank had another great start (2 of the 3 have been great) giving up 1 hit in 6 innings before getting in trouble in the 7th and Kent wins game 1 today 6-0.

RE: 2023 Baseball
Swept UT-Martin this weekend and now have won 5 in row to go to 7-4 overall. The Wofford sweep isn't looking so bad because Wofford is now 10-1.

Kent won their home opener 22-1 against the YSU Penguins. It wasn't that close.

A home game on a 30-degree Tuesday, March 7.

Are they still charging admission for those games?

Yes. I froze. I think the YSU players were not having fun.

Sweep of NIU; 12-1, 12-7 and 16-10. That's nine in a row. With the exception of the Wofford series (who are now 14-1), the team has been pretty awesome. The offense looks great and pitching is up and down, but this team could be make a strong play for the MAC.

RE: 2023 Baseball
Be careful as schedule was built for a good looking record. They got swept by the 1 good team on schedule. I hope they’ve turned the corner. Let’s see how they fare against the ball state, Toledo and cmu. That statement along is an indicator how far this program has regressed as we used to own this league.

RE: 2023 Baseball
I get that Kent didn't play a stellar OOC schedule, but they did take 2 of 3 from Jacksonville, who are in the Top 100 in Massey Ratings. The thing I see is that they have great bats and Cruikshank has looked awesome, so you have your Friday starter. If they sort out who can do what on the pitching staff, they can do well, even though I don't think they have the pitching depth. It's really 3 games a week, so 6 or 7 good pitchers is all you need. The mid-week game is just for fun.

Kent swept Canisus in the crummy weather yesterday, outscoring them 38-7 in 2 7-inning games. Their next game is Monday. No, Canisus isn't very good, but 38 runs in 14 innings is a lot of runs no matter who you are playing (unless it is Youngstown State when they run out of pitchers).

RE: 2023 Baseball
13 game winning streak went down the drain yesterday in a 8-3 loss to Pitt. The loss is a bummer, but Kent was trying to get a lot of pitchers some work. The biggest question I would have right now is whether or not Kent can work Aiden Longwell into the MAC games as a pitcher. He is possibly Kent's best bat posting a 422/485/711 slashline, but has been lights out on the mound with a 1.45 ERA in 18 2/3 innings. Yesterday, Longwell pitched three shutout, no-hit innings.

Having Longwell as a weekend reliever would be valuable, but I don't know if Kent will go there to keep him focused on hitting in the weekend games.

Back on track with road winner over CMU in 12 innings.

While 13 game win streak is nice and obvious numbers looked good. Winning against CMU tells me more than win streak IMO

RE: 2023 Baseball
A split is okay; hopefully Kent takes the rubber match. Very good relief pitching in Game 1 yesterday, not so much in Game 2. Control seemed to be an issue for the Kent pitchers, which meant the starters were running up their pitch counts way too fast. A little disappointed in the offense (8 runs in 21 innings isn't that good).

RE: 2023 Baseball
Tying run on third with one out in the ninth, but couldn't get him home and Kent loses 2-1. Bummer to take an L on a strong pitching performance from Chalus and the bullpen.

Won 1 of the 4 games at CMU. Not surprised, as the record is fools gold. Let's see what happens as we continue through the MAC season.

They only played 3 at CMU. They moved the Saturday game to Friday to avoid the bad weather here yesterday.

Gotcha - I guess when I saw the score yesterday on NCAA.com that was the 2nd game Friday.

RE: 2023 Baseball
Lots of shuffling of games in March to keep things moving. Near Cleveland, there were very high winds on Saturday and Wisconsin got smashed with snow. Not sure how things were up there in the Central Michigan, but I bet they were trying to avoid weather.
