Outside of its abundant natural resources I would tend to agree. Most of it is not a very good place to inhabit.

Well it was pretty good for early homo sapiens. Took us a while to inhabit colder climates.

God knew what he was doing! If he had placed us in Hawai'i would we have ever left? Instead put us where Lions, Leopards and Hyenas and Crocodiles can eat us, Rhinos, Hippos and Elephants can trample us, and where resources are available but spread out instead of concentrated and of course we would move out and populate the planet. The problem is God never told us when to stop!

Is that why the Montreal Canadians have the H in the logo? I had to finally look it up because the H made no sense to me.

H is for "hockey."

RE: South Africa Falling?
I spent a few weeks in J-Berg and Mamalodi volunteering. Beautiful people. But not only is the government corrupt, so are it's religious leaders. They all drive stretch Mercedes and have coy ponds while the people live in squalor and need shoes. It's institutionalized. The people expect their social and political leaders to live like kings and queens.

US Citizens in South Africa Warned to Stockpile Food, Water Amid 'Ongoing Energy Crisis'

Quote:The US embassy in South Africa has warned citizens traveling to or living in South Africa to stockpile on food and water amidst an "ongoing energy crisis" taking place in the nation.

The warning, issued earlier this month, warns that the South African government has declared a "State of Disaster" in response to ongoing power shortages, caused by "load-shedding" or rolling blackouts, which are expected to last beyond 2023.

"Load-shedding currently results in localized power outages of up to six hours or more per day throughout the country," the US embassy stated.

"These planned electricity outages negatively affect private residences, businesses, municipal lighting, traffic lights, and hotels. Rolling blackouts can also impact water availability and safety, internet connectivity, cell phone network coverage, fuel pumps (and therefore fuel availability), residential security features, and the food supply."

Additionally, these power outages "have the potential to increase crime; for example, traffic jams when lights are out provide opportunities for smash and grab crime, and residences can be targeted when lights are out and security systems are not functioning. Further, ongoing conditions have led to an increase in protests and demonstrations, and in some cases civil unrest, throughout the country."

The warning from the embassy reminds US citizens traveling to or living in South Africa that the country has been labeled with a Travel Advisory Level 2: "Exercise Increased Caution due to Crime and Civil Unrest."

US citizens are encouraged to "be aware of your surroundings," review personal security plans, line up means of back-up power supplies, avoid demonstrations, "Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests," and monitor media for updates.

To prepare for impending power outages, the embassy encourages US citizens to have backup means of communication in place, gather necessary medicines and medical supplies, memorize family phone numbers, and "identify safe areas around the city, these could include hotels, hospitals, churches, or police stations that may not lose power."

Additionally, US citizens are urged to maintain a 72-hours worth of food, water, and medical supplies, as well as stockpile flashlights, batteries, and basic tools.

In addition to citizens preparing, businesses in South Africa have been preparing for the potential collapse of the grid.

According to the Sunday Times, the South African Reserve Bank has stressed that a regional or national grid failure is unlikely to occur, but longer stages of load shedding have pushed businesses to prepare for the possibility.

MTN, a telecommunications company, has deployed more than 2,000 generators over the last year to counter stage four and higher load shedding.

On Sunday, Power utility company Eskom downgraded load shedding to stage 5, though it had been at stage six for almost an entire week prior. Eskom also confirmed that over 7,000MW were removed from the grid at times, saying that load shedding hit stage 7. Jacob Maroga, Former Eskom CEO, said the company had technically implemented stage 8 load-shedding this week, as any cuts above 7,000MW are stage 8.

The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) reportedly has enough diesel reserves to run its operations for seven days.

Additionally, mines have installed generators to ensure that workers are able to be brought out of the mines in the case of a power failure.

RE: South Africa Falling?
From a thread on SA. This is just a small taste. Much more at the link.

Quote: 2. City Power has an average turn around time of 2 to 3 days for grid repairs. They don't have the manpower, supplies nor funds. And they've already used this year's budget.
3. We're seeing an increase in coordinated attacks on water, power and comms infrastructure.
4. Looting is no longer just a daily thing, but is also now becoming more structured with guerilla planning involved.
5. Our roads no longer exist. Anything that is state run is crumbling.
6. Police fire and hospital resources for the state don't exist and are also slowly disintegrating.
7. ESKOM - South Africa's only power producer - is averaging 50% or less power output. Plunging massive parts of our country into rolling blackouts.

The controlling party is a cleptocracy. Not just at the top. All the way down to the precinct level. Everyone is in till. No surprise the system is failing.

RE: South Africa Falling?
South African President Declares Government Has No Constitutional Responsibility to Provide Electricity

Quote:On Monday, amid unprecedented levels of loadshedding across the nation, South African president Cyril Ramaphosa claimed that the federal government does not have a constitutional obligation to provide power to its citizens.

Ramaphosa and the African National Congress have been front and center in the inquiry into state-owned electricity supplier Eskom. The United Democratic Movement and others recently filed a lawsuit in an effort to end the ubiquitous rolling blackouts and have the government's response to the crisis deemed unconstitutional and in breach of fundamental human rights.

According to Independent Online, Ramaphosa argued in his affidavit that the obligation to provide electricity to citizens fell at the feet of muncipal rather than federal leaders, thus his government's response could not legally be ruled unconstitutional.

"If municipalities do not for one reason or another supply electricity to their people, the Constitution does not say that the president must go down to the local government and do it," he wrote.

Ramaphosa's insinuation that he and the ANC bore no legal responsibility to remedy the situation was quickly criticized, prompting the government to issue a formal statement in an attempt to clarify what he meant.

The president's office argued that the comments had been "misrepresented," and that when Ramaphosa said that the federal government was not responsible for the provision of electricity, he was not suggesting that he and the ANC would sit idly by as South Africans suffer.

"This statement does not in any way diminish the commitment of President Ramaphosa and this government to end load shedding as a matter of urgency," the government wrote, adding that, "the intense focus that is being given to resolving this crisis – and the actions that have been taken so far – clearly show that neither the President nor government has abdicated its responsibility for ending load shedding and setting the country on a path to energy security."

The case, set to be heard in the Gauteng North High Court in Pretoria beginning March 20, is just one of many attempts to root out the corruption and mismanagement that led to the Eskom debacle.

On Tuesday, Democratic Alliance leader John Steenhuisen announced that he had called on the Speaker of the National Assembly to establish a parliamentary committee to investigate allegations of systemic corruption at Eskom.

"We cannot sit back while our institutions are destroyed by ANC criminal cartels," he stated.

RE: South Africa Falling?
This may sound racist but I'm going by what I see in the news about all those cities in the US that are run by blacks are cesspools and crime is rampant and nothing is done to curtail it or stop it. They let hoodlums run wild killing each other, ransacking businesses, and beating up on any random person. So it's not hard to believe that Black Africa would be the same. I'll never understand what is in their psyches, or what makes them tick. I'm just glad I live in El Paso, I could never live anywhere where the mayor was Black. They only care about themselves, they don't even care about their own people.

They can start caring and making me eat my words and I'll be waiting, there's many crows in my neighborhood, I'll gladly trap and eat one.

The thing about black mayors is it's almost always considered rassis to ever run anyone who isn't black into the office after that. What's it's called again when a group of people only vote for candidates with the same skin color?

I don't know man, you tell me.

Say it, I know you can. SAY IT!

LOL. Let me help you, RACIST! But, you know everyone can be racist but not Blacks, they're never racist even if they outright tell you Whites are (fill in the blank). Nick Cannon, host of the Mask said some pretty derogatory things about Whites and did he get any backlash from anyone? Of course not, because in their eyes it wasn't racist...because he's Black.
