I thought you said cremation. The Cremation Bowl with Rice vs. Utah Tech(formerly Dixie(?) State), sponsored by Houston Funeral Home, 443 South Jackson St, where folks are dying to get in...

All these meaningless bowl games are way over the top. About four of them need to disappear. SMU must be thrilled to see that they may be playing a 5-7 Rice team. What a disaster.

All I have to say is that Bloomgren better be gone after next weekend.

Four? Try sixty-four.

Preach! It's so stupid that all these undeserving teams get to go to bowl games. If I had my way, only the top three teams from each conference would be in a bowl. There would only be fifteen bowl games. It means absolutely nothing to make a bowl game these days. Hell, we'll be in one!

It means one is in the top 82. Nothing more.

I remember when bowl bids were scarce enough that two losses could take you out of consideration. Three definitely would.

On the positive side I'll say that I'm glad this kid AJ Padgett got to play. First of all, he LOOKS like a QB, and a leader, not a freak. Secondly, he went 7 for 18 with 1 TD and 0 Int for 110 yards, with that TD being a 43-yarder. As a Freshman, he only completed 38.9% of his passes, but I'd go ahead and give him a chance to play again against NoTexas so he can get some more game-speed reps. Hope he stays here, too, but you never know. That's about the only positive seen Saturday on S. Main.

What do you mean he "looks" like a QB? What should a QB look like? Which of our QBs looks like a freak?

In 2018 wiley green started his first game in our season finale vs old dominion and won. In 2021 TJ mcmahon stepped in in our last game against LA tech after Luke was injured and won. Wonder if Itraish or Padgett will lead us to another season ending win.

here's another guy who LOOKS like a QB and a leader, not a freak:

I remember my dad telling me that there were only 8 or 9 bowl games until the 80's arrived, and that's when it all started getting out of control. He said that you had to have a great season to get a bowl bid, meaning you had to win at least 8 games

I guess I am old enough to be your dad, then.

Lots of times the second place team in the conference stayed home.

I also remember when they had names like the Cotton Bowl and the Rose Bowl, not the Buy Our Product Bowl or Donate to Our Cause Bowl.

its al about ESPN owning the bowl system -- and generating a lot of air time while letting local communities pick up the hosting tab.

Kind of brilliant, in a grotesque sort of way.....

Two new Rice bowl projections from ESPN:

Mark Schlabach has us in the Frisco Bowl (Dec. 17 / 8:15pm Central: was hoping for San Francisco, but it's in the Dallas suburb/Toyota Stadium) vs. Utah State.

Kyle Bonagura has us in the SERVPRO First Responders Bowl (Dec. 27/ Time TBD: Dallas/SMU's Ford Stadium) vs. San Diego State.

I have seen Soccer Championship games in both of those stadiums. MLS in the former and NCAA in the latter.

Hey yall, I just want to say that I was impressed with the updates that have been done at Rice Stadium. I must say, I was hoping to see the old school trough in the men's bathroom, but I was impressed with how they looked. Wished the weather was better, but living in Michigan, I was used to it. See yall in the AAC.
