I see a few 100 Clubs mentioned on Rice web domains, but the only one that seems to be related to women's athletics is for women tennis players who won more than 100 games in their careers. The first member was Tracie Blumentritt (115 wins in four years... https://scholarship.rice.edu/bitstream/h...no01.pdf), Susan Rudd was inducted in 1984 (with 108 doubles victories and 107 singles wins: https://texashistory.unt.edu/ark:/67531/...1/m1/16/), and the third was Wendy Wood Yang (147 wins ... https://scholarship.rice.edu/handle/1911/64577).

The figure in the plaque could be a stylized woman tennis player in the act of serving the ball.

There are dozens of these.
It would take decades to award them to 100-winner athletes.
I see that alignment as unlikely.
A worthy search, though.

I was hoping someone would actually have witnessed the award.

Grungy, You are amazing! If it were possible, I would nominate you for an honorary Rice "Doctorate in Doing Things That Always Should Have Been Done But Never Were".

Thank you for all your efforts in all you do and have done for the benefit of the University, its athletes, and band members.

This would appear to be the program that the award was once given for...
From the date built into the URL, the page is five years old.
The link to register is no longer active, and the person whose email is given no longer works at Rice.
Tanner Gardner says that the logo is no longer in use.

Ack! Nooooo!!

If nominated I shall not run.
If elected I shall not speak.

I am a poster-child for how not to do things (that are important to the Institute - study skills, ambition, graduate in four years, leadership, give buckets of money no-strings-attached).

Hey... YOU guys asked ME to speak... I think it only fair!

This is why you should do it. You are absolutely also a poster-child for 'doing what needs to be done, even and sometimes especially if they are not important to the Institute, but ultimately benefit the Institute and ALL of its members'

Seriously... although I absolutely respect your lack of desire to do it... your passion for 'doing the right thing, even with nobody else helping' is a TRULY admirable quality... even 'buckets of no-strings money' couldn't do what your passion and effort has done. Budgets would have required simply throwing all of those items away.... and of course this is only one of dozens of similar things that you've done.

The Rice Historical Society, the R Association and numerous other groups SHOULD have done what you have... and none of them have... but YOU did.

Well, that would speed things up at Commencement! 04-cheers

I don't know about the "how not to do things" part. Hard-working, determined, stick-to-it-ness are all excellent qualities for how to get things done! 04-bow

Hey... YOU guys asked ME to speak... I think it only fair!

Hambone is referring to The MOB asking him to speak at our annual banquet.
He did a nice job.
(Yes, that's fair.)

Imagine doing that in front of an entire graduating class, with parents (extended families, really), the faculty, and local and national press.

No thank you.

The current me might have been able to address the undergraduate me's contemporaries - they were smart enough to be accepted, and weren't necessarily ambitious and driven, as today's incoming freshlings, and eventual graduates need to be.
How many of you have stated that you probably couldn't be accepted to one of today's incoming classes?
I don't want to discount those who were ambitious and driven back in the Seventies - there were plenty.
But there were also the slackers who just got by, and they are my tribe.
I'm not even in the management structure of that tribe (is anyone?).
Nope.
Someone else can speak to the future captains of industry and leaders of the free world.
I'll play second trumpet in the band at the ceremony, and watch the members of my extended family graduate.

Missing from this gathering - Jim Bevan, Bob and Betty Bixby (Honorary R), Shaquandra Roberson, and Joe Savery.

I think a trumpet solo would be better than some recent commencement speakers.
