RE: Game Week: UMass
50 pts and 1 punt against an 0-3 team. Does anyone really think we have worse personnel than 10 years ago? If your scheme relies on a future pro-bowler you don't have a scheme.
CC has never been great at x and o, but he stabilized a program in free-fall. Maybe Neathery can rebuild another basket case as a head coach. Honestly wouldn't be surprised if he was successful elsewhere, so long as he isn't running the defense.
We have 1 or 2 great head coaches, a mediocre OC, and an abysmal DC.
....
I guess I am annoyed. None of this rests upon the effort of the young men in pads. A win against UMass or the rest won't happen because they "play harder." They need to be put in a position to win, and that's up to the coaching staff.

Smith was a nice changeup but we need Powell's experience and passing threat. Without Powell, UMass will just load the box and take away the running game. This game could hinge on his availability.

RE: Game Week: UMass
It's "get right" week. Here's 3 things to watch for in tomorrow's game.
1. Losing Blake Bogan for the season is not good at all. He is still listed on the 2 deeps I'm hearing. This is a good game for the next guy to step in as I don't believe we will be tested in the air a ton. I'm interested to see who steps in for the remainder of the season.
2. I'm looking for Hassan Beydoun. Has anyone seen him? He's been playing ok, but we need him and this game is a perfect opportunity to get a rhythm between him and Austin.
3. How will our defense respond. I'm not concerned at all about our offense which is averaging over 30 points a game. I am concerned with the scheme of the D. Let's see if we can rebound from last week's 50 burger we endured.

Still waiting for the wide receiver that can beat a defender with speed + size.
My fears of having too many of the same guy (as much as I LOVE Beydoun & Knue & Drummond) are coming true.
Not that that solves the defense issue. What happened to the Neathery that was making halftime adjustments and rolling out a defense that would get a shutout in the third quarter? That was only a few seasons ago. I don't get it.

I really like Darius Lassiter. He's 6'3 and quick. 3rd in yards and has made some big plays. He's also had some big drops... I'm crossing my fingers he can shake those off and be a great receiving option for us down the stretch.
Btw, for those of us who wanted more passes to the TEs, our starting TE has the 4th most receiving yards and receptions. Paaske getting involved some too but I'd like to see even more.

One of the passes in the Buffalo game by Smith to Darius was off by maybe 5 yards, but Darius stuck an arm out and somehow caught it. To me it looked like he saw the ball on a shelf and said that's mine. It was such a good catch, I really was wowed by it. It might be my favorite play of the season thus far. Also in this receiver room getting time on the field is tough, we have so much talent that they have to fight for it. Darius is doing a hell of a job. Darius is an absolute beast, I hope he gets a chance in the next level.

Well said. The room is the most talented on the team in my opinion. Lassiter is really good and will likely be our #1 next season as I think Knue, Drummond and Beydoun graduate end of this year, correct? Remember that we still.have Westmoreland who was good last year and we simply haven't seen him because of the top 3.
Watch out for Beydoun to have a break out game

Correct.
The number of years of eligibility remaining is listed on the roster.

RE: Game Week: UMass
Read through the first few pages and skimmed the rest. UMass macro summary. Last year was a new low point where we could not beat average FCS teams. This year we are on par with top FCS teams and will give you a fight. We played three QB with the third slowly getting healthy to play. Each QB has strengths and weaknesses. The defense is rate #59 through 4 games, which is not bad. The offense as stated is bad, rate #127.
Think we will give a competitive game. Win this one, you'd only have a 500 record against UMass and we should continue to get better.

I think we can do way better, but honestly it doesn’t matter. He’s proven that the floor and the ceiling are basically the same thing since 2016, and was rewarded with a contract that incentivizes the status quo. He’ll be here as long as he wants to be.
Sam, you have offered a very accurate assessment of Creighton. He is NOT getting a P5 job, no booster base there would tolerate that. We always fret when a HC job like MSU or Rutgers opens up, but our concerns are unfounded, those schools are not going to touch him.
I am, however, in the camp of Creighton lovers. English was not the ONLY failed football coach at EMU. Genyk, Woodruff and Rasnick probably achieved less than Ron. Chris took a job at a head coaching graveyard and has done a great deal to improve the program. I like the clean program, exciting offensive football and the elevation of EMU football he has provided. I WILL settle for his W-L record, based on the 25-year history that preceded him.
That stated, it is OBVIOUS that the contract extension we gave Coach was a bad decision. He's not going anywhere, why lock ourselves in for such a long term? This is the FOURTH consecutive season that we have had a subpar defense and the "common denominator" Neal Neathery is still in Ypsilanti. I realize and appreciate that CC has a deep sense of loyalty, but it is obvious that we need to change something here.
Ironically, the head coach we face Saturday had a similar start to Neathery at U-M. A few great years on his arrival followed by a steep decline and when boosters were calling for Harbaugh's job, Don Brown was let go. Neal does too.

If we blow the doors off of this game tomorrow, is there a chance we see Cam Mccoy the next qb play? All I know is that he is an elite athlete. Would love to see him play a couple series.

Me too. I thought Cam played better than smith in limited time. Would like to see him in action but true freshmen typically don’t play at all.

Let me sum up: It is easier to replace a co-ordinator than a HC. However, that is EASIER said than done.
Don't want to toss the baby out with the bath water.
BTW, who is the offensive coordinator?
