Robert Davis Jr., a 6-6 Senior Wing Player from Detroit is announcing his commitment at 6PM today with the finalists being Toledo, UMass, Sienna, Austin Peay and Loyola (MD). He is known for a dependable shot from deep, defensive versatility and someone who embraces his role for overall team success. Sounds like TK’s type of player!

Very good shooter. As my coach once stated - "if you can shoot we'll find a spot for you".
Athletic and like most HS players needs to learn to play tough man to man D.
Lots of potential. I wasn't sure we were still recruiting him but apparently we are.
UT is closest school to home. EMU, UDM, Oakland, & CMU already chopped from list.
This will be interesting. I'll be watching his twitter post at 6:00 !!!

Davis is a solid prospect. Pretty good looking scorer and has a legit D1 body and size. Not a big hit that he goes to UMass as we already are pretty deep at wing with returnees and commits.
Sonny Wilson is not my favorite PG on our radar but heʻs a good MAC level prospect who seems to have UT on his short list. Heʻs got offers from all 5 of the Michigan mid-majors, plus UT, Kent, Akron and a few others. Sounds like Kent and UT are recruiting him as hard as anyone. Iʻd say PG and PF/C are the primary recruiting needs to fill out the class.

I would be ecstatic if we land Sonny, very good guard and winner. Plays at u of D Jesuit out of Detroit same highschool that produced Cassius Winston and plays for the family travel team (I love getting players from there program). Small guard but tough and knows how to get to his spots and shoots it pretty well.

good reply, haven't seen him play and only watched a few videos. searched on him some more just now and he's pretty respected by recruiters. was once the consensus #1 player in his class in Michigan. now, between 2 and 5. some sites have him as a top 150 player nationally, or in that area. no big name offers, but lots of mid major interest. the family has been good to us.

RE: 2023 Men's Basketball Recruiting
Are we more in need of a PG or a F. What should our 3rd commit be for ‘23? The hard part is knowing who might leave. Perhaps we take best available regardless of position and use portal to fill gaps. This seems to be the philosophy these days.
I would have liked to bring in a sweet shooting player like Davis. Oh well.
College players come and go.
Does anybody here have a list of local DI basketball talent for ‘23? It does not seem like we’re on any local kids. I think UT is getting fewer and fewer options from local talent as years go by. I’m trying to think of last local player to sign at UT. I remember Devin Russell from Start in 2008. It’s a shame we cannot tap our own area based on talent and interest reasons.
TK is creating consistent winners at UT but the grail remains a NCAA bid. So tough in the MAC.

It depends how you define local. If you mean Lucas County Chris Darrington from Scott was the last local player. Until his knee injury the Rockets were recruiting Chico Johnson from Central. I tend to think of players from Ohio, Michigan and Indiana as local. Rocket commit Xavier Thomas from Bloomfield Hills is only 75 miles from Toledo, Sonny Wilson from Pontiac is 90 miles away. Luke Knapke from Maria Stein, Zach Garber from Carey, Ohio and Ryan Rollins from Macomb, Michigan could all be considered local (100 mile or so radius to Toledo)
To see local hoops talent you may want to check out the Toledo Top 64 event Sept 25th at Lourdes College https://twitter.com/ToledoTop_64/status/...16/photo/2

Lauf from Napoleon and Garber from Vanlue were also "local" depending on your definition.

Khoi Thurmon, a 6-1 pg out of Akron Buchtel with a strange offer list of Toledo, Jackson St, Illinois, and IUPFW goes to...
Fort Wayne. good signing for them. not sure how hard UT was recruiting him of late as we are also clearly going hard after Detroit PG Sonny Wilson.

also, keep an eye on a Bolingbrook, IL C named Younger. True 6-9 guy who UT has been recruiting but I don't think has offered. He plays for Tyler Cochran's old HS (Dennis from nearby too). He was a hot freshman HS recruit (Illinois even offered early) but had some injuries and poor play and his recruiting cooled. He's now healthy and starting to get mid major offers again. Good size and mobility.

Wesley looks to be a bit of a project. He is very thin, not a good leaper and is focused on perimeter play. He seems to face up and drive well enough but seems to have average ability. His brother Miles is the real deal. He does not have a strong inside presence. IMHO I think we can do better.

Maybe so. I don't know if Toledo is still interested. Most bigs coming to the MAC from high school will be projects. Wesley Rubin is very skilled with his back to the basket. He’s athletic and moves well in the paint and can pass the ball at an elite level. Although thin he can add weight and strength in college. He’s one of the best interior defenders in Illinois.

Sleepy -Appreciate all your recruiting info. Rubin has a decent shot but like a lot of UT recruits the video library clips are limited. It's hard to get a feel for some of these kids. Maybe I should reserve judgment.
I assume UT is looking for a PG and a 4. It seems we do not recruit centers anymore as they are few and far between. TK's philosophy seems to be more position-less basketball with the guards skewed toward defensive rebounding versus slipping out on the break.
I assume we have one more slot open and possible 2 for 2023.
Very excited for next season.
Go Rockets!
How do you get your info on who we offer? Verbal commits?
