Considering the declining birth rate and rapid aging of the US population there needs to be a serious discussion about how to incentivize people to have more children. I'm 35, have been working full time for over a decade, and just now am in a position financially where I feel like I could afford to have and support a child, and that's really only because of a few promotions and being insanely fortunate to now have a rent free house to live in. When I was paying 1200 a month for a 1 bedroom apartment (and I don't even want to look at what my apartment would cost now) I couldn't have afforded that and I had a pretty solid job at the time. Conservatives love to pine for the days when women stayed home and took care of the children. I would be thrilled if that were an option but what kind of single salary would you need to make at this point to comfortably take care of a family of yourself, your wife and multiple children? To rent a place large enough for that family anywhere near Raleigh you'd be looking at a minimum of 2k a month, and to buy a house well good luck.

If you wait until you can afford to have kids chances are you'll never have them because you'll be too old.

Get married, enjoy being a newlywed, and then start having kids.

Life is much more enjoyable that way.

And chances are, even though you can't afford it, you'll figure it out somehow and won't end up living in a box behind a dumpster.

I am a newlywed (at least unless the SC overturns Loving and my marriage gets voided) and am enjoying it a lot. Thankfully I can now probably afford to have the 2 kids I'd like to have, and I consider myself extremely lucky because a whole lot of people my age and younger absolutely can not afford it. Pretty sure that's extremely financially irresponsible to say just do something you can't afford and it will somehow work out. If you are living paycheck to paycheck by yourself throwing kids into that equation is an insane proposition, and that's a really bad thing for society as a whole.

Congratulations on being a newlywed. My wife and I lived in a small town home / condo in a not so great area when we first got married. We had a first child two years in and another a couple of years later. Decided to move to back then to the country side where we could afford more and the kids could go to a non urban school district. Great decision. We managed our money well and she stayed home with the kids. I just wish we would have had more than two kids. We are now empty nesters and having money is over rated. I enjoyed the kids much more than any wealth we attained. Heck I grew up poor so getting by was always second nature for me. Just remember as folks strive for that pot gold that is fleeting raising kids is a lifetime full of memories. It’s like living your childhood all over again. Best of Luck

Getting a vaccine is a personal choice.
Having safe sex is a personal choice.
Having a say is a personal choice.
The unborn child has no choice.
Evangelical has nothing to do with it. Catholics are against it and are not Evangelicals. Many Methodists and Episcopalians and Presbyterians are pro choice and some of them call themselves Evangelical.
The issue itself occurs when bad choices are made.
I've known some people who have had an abortion. Most live with a horrible guilt. Many of those who champion abortion never had one. Like many conservatives and liberals with a cause they enjoy being heard and lauded by whatever side. Their egos are pumped and they have no guilt. Most narcissists don't.
Actions have consequences and they aren't always pleasant.
When people look at this issue from all standpoints it changes assessments.
Fathers may want a child. Women may have been raped. Both sides have much to think about. Then ask yourself if you would want to exist? Politically I have to ponder does a society which permits abortion and promotes euthanasia also embrace genocide. They have in the past.

But until you think through this from each point of view you have not earned the right to scream F.U. to anyone. Post again when you can clearly state your position and reasoning. Until then you are simply another histrionic sky screamer.

I've spent the last 30 minutes looking for this evasive Constitutional right to an abortion and am having some trouble finding it. I did find an elaborately written piece equating it to enslaving a woman to the state and something so equally inane that I've already forgotten the basis. I'm pro-choice with restrictions but have a hard time equating life, liberty, happiness and other basic human rights to the abortion conundrum. There is a stark difference between abortion and the comments made by Thomas regarding contraception and gay rights. The latter two involve individual freedom and should fall under the protection of the Constitution - whether I agree with them or not - while abortion is a lot more complicated.
