Since 2005, Marshall has had ONE good baseball season and that was in 2016. There was one other year the Herd was over .500 and that was a 29-28 season. So please don't try to polish the turd.
You have a new President and AD and hopefully that will be a positive. The facility being talked about has been talked about for YEARS. When a shovel goes in the ground, I'll start to pay attention.
The climate doesn't help. But Old Dominion doesn't use it as an excuse. Neither do other teams in that part of the country.
Sorry if your feelings got hurt by what I said. With the new additions to the Sun Belt, this is one helluva baseball league. We need ALL programs to do their part to get better.
Pretty sure everyone in Green won't care until we see some girders or something going up...

No offense taking by this Herd fan, as what you say is true. We also suck in WBasketball, but I think we are pretty solid in football, MBasketball (last year the exception), Softball, and MSoccer.
I'll think that compares pretty good with most of the conference in those sports.
We are talking baseball...you don’t have to defend your addition to the conference, nobody is suggesting anything like that.
Wasn't even a thought, I know we are a good addition. Just pointing out that I agree with your fellow poster about Marshall baseball. I also don't think it is a big deal that we suck. Would I like us to be better? absolutely, but I would also like of some of our future fellow conference mates to be better in sports that we are good at too.
My point is it is a conference.... Some schools are just better than others in certain sports.
Edit: Now it is embarrassing that we do not have a decent field within distance of campus, but based on my limited knowledge do believe it will be rectified in the next 3-4 years.
Haha ok, you listed the sports you were good in and how it compared to the rest of the conference, right after someone brought up a sport you aren’t good in.

...and therein lies the problem. Your administration has had the same attitude for wayyyy too long. Hopefully the new guys get it.
Here's the rub. Baseball is a VERY important sport to the league. MUCH more important than any sports on here that aren't football or basketball. We need the Marshalls and Arkansas States of the world to make this sport a priority and invest. And, not just in facilities. Invest in coaches. Invest in recruiting. Invest in publicizing the program.

Problem Arkansas State is facing is previous administrations made no effort to get a donor base for baseball started, so we suddenly woke up a couple months ago, realized we had to make major investments to be competitive, with no donor base to build off of.
We're rapidly facing a moment of reckoning on both baseball and basketball. New AD has his work cut out for him.

speaking of future of SBC baseball... looks like the funding has been secured for the new GSU baseball stadium. Renderings and concrete details may be revealed late summer. Sounded as if it's a done deal and looking into finer details in the lot between the new GSU basketball arena and the Center Parc football stadium.

Speaking of baseball that sucks and isn't being invested in enough... JMU will be extending Marlin Ikenberry through the 2024 season. 153-159 record while 60-74 in the CAA in seven seasons including the season cancelled due to COVID. 31-26 is his best record at JMU, 13-11 his best record in conference.
Hopefully this is just a matter of wanting to get through the transition and start getting SBC media money and everything before upping the coach salaries in baseball so sticking it out a couple more years. Otherwise the bar is far too low for JMU baseball.

Well, somebody has to come in last.
Perhaps JMU can flip a coin with Marshall to determine who will become the “first loser” in the inaugural expanded SBC baseball conference.
Hopefully JMU won’t be the rpi killer for the top teams. The SBC should command 4-6 teams in the NCAAT every year.

Vinnie is an ODU guy who has been crushing it in AAA this year. Royals fans have been clamoring for the org to call him up, and today they finally did.

They're writing articles about Vinnie's call-up. I presume he gets his first start later today. He is the 6th Monarch to play in the MLB this year.
An inside look at Vinnie Pasquantino’s first day with the Kansas City Royals

Future for SBC baseball is BRIGHT
Vinnie Pasquantino has had 47 at bats since his call up, over 14 games. 10 hits, 9 walks, 8 strikeouts. 2 HRs, 3 RBIs.
Has been making a lot of contact, but defenders have been fielding it. That should sort itself out
Meanwhile, PJ Higgins playing for the Cubs, hit his first grand slam the other day

Vinnie P hit his 3rd homerun last night, a 10th inning, 2-run moonshot off the foul pole to give them the 5-3 lead ... That the Royals proceeded to blow. Hey, not HIS fault
Verlander surpassed Bob Gibson to reach 14th on the All-Time Strikeout list, with 3,118 Ks and counting. The next milestone is Pedro Martinez, at 3,154

Does Verlander belong to you guys. Great pitcher. Future Hall of Famer a few years after he retires. In what 10 more seasons. Another thing is he definitely married well. A lot to be a fan of.

ODU had a better RPI than Grand Canyon and was left out. . . . IMO, The Committee blew that one.
Even NC State (also left out) would have been a better selection than Grand Canyon.
Appreciate the observation. It still hurts. The silver lining is that we are getting close to securing enough donations for a $20M renovation.
