RE: Landers BOH
Of all the gripes about Penny (there are legit ones for sure) the one thing you have to give him is this, dude can recruit and usually at the last minute. I'll have to reserve any judgment until we get closer to next season. Think between the portal, one freebie transfer, and covid super seniors, this was a perfect storm for massive turnover. Have to think once covid bonus years run out you'll see a little more (not a lot) consistency.

This. Too early to be worried and Penny has a great recruiting track record. Certainly an interesting year for all teams with the factors you listed.

He had a stretch when he was on fire during our winning streak where he was who we thought he would be.
Couldn't agree more. He really let us down in the postseason when the "Bates" issues (if they existed at all per the narrative) were more than resolved. 1-6 in the field and 0-1 from 3 versus Gonzaga as well. Inconsistent at best, and if its mental, not an easy fix.
He was hurt. When your knees are gone it’s hard to make jump shots
We'll see what he does next season, but I don't expect it will be much different than this year.
Depends on his health. He’s got old man knees. So does Chandler Lawson
What is this with all the knee problems in these relatively young men? Could it be the constant playing the game in their youth, with their regular season, AAU teams, workouts, etc.? It seems to have become a year-round enterprise during the physically developing years of their life.
Did not know Landers had knee issues, and really only heard about Lawson's after the season. That's a shame....

When there was no portal and no players, you could worry about losing players. Now, there are no worries as far as I'm concerned. I expect us to field a great team.

I believe it is twofold. 1 is constant playing like you mentioned 2 is the push to have kids focus on one sport instead of playing multiple sports.
Obviously, different sports develop different muscles. I believe that pays huge benefits as kids get older and begin to focus on a singular sport. I am not a doctor but I am active in youth sports and it seems that I see far more injuries from kids who focus on one sport than kids who grow up playing several. And maybe threefold... I also see kids (and parents pushing kids) to try skills that are simply beyond their development at that point. I see this a lot in baseball where kids seem to be throwing a lot more off speed pitches before they are really ready. What is unfortunate is that these are commonly very talented players who burn their arm out by 16 or 17 years old. I imagine that happens in basketball where kids are putting pressure and strain on their lower body in ways that their body is really not developed enough to handle. But again that is my purely antidotal view and opinion.

It could be.
Same for Minott - although he was much more expected.
I figured Nolley was headed G-league or overseas - not the portal.
But it could be that Minott and Nolley wanted assurances, but Penny has prioritized Deandre and Emoni at their positions.
Also possible that we are headed towards a 1-year ban and guys are concerned.
But everyone should have confidence in Penny's ability to recruit.
So if anyone can overcome recruiting obstacles it's him.

What if it's a post-season ban, and we have this lineup:
Lomax
J-Lawson
Emoni
Deandre
Chandler
With subs:
Tyler
Malcolm
Jayden
And a couple of portal surprises.
That's not the end of the world.

1,121 in the portal as of today.
Likely, 700+ more to go.

Define "push out".
Tell him to leave? Very doubtful.
Refuse to make promises that he would be the focal point of the offense? Very possible.
