Disappointing final round for Pendrith, but a T2 is a really nice accomplishment for a PGA rookie.

Ian Holt had a killer final round on the PGA Canada Tour and finished tied for 5th.

His missed birdie putt on 18 cost him a cool $275k

So, three Kent golfers and in the BMW Championship for the Top 70 golfers in the PGA. Conners, Hughes and Pendrith all need a good tournament (and, in the case of Hughes and Pendrith, great tournament) to reach the Top 30 and the Tour Championship, but it's impressive to have three players from the same team at this level.

Which makes me wonder how they lost to Alabama in the NCAA tournament. That team was LOADED.

So was Alabama (some guy with the initials JT) and their 4/5 was better. And no shame in any of that.

Mac Hughes wasn’t on that team, was he? I thought he had graduated. But I don’t trust my memory on that.

Yeah, he was.

Kevin Miller lost to Justin Thomas (this guy did alright, I hear)
Kyle Kmiecik lost to Cory Whitsett
Corey Conners beat someone
Taylor Pendrith lost to Scott Strohmeyer
Mackenzie Hughes was tied when Pendrith lost, so his match was halved.

And what do those three have in common? Like Herb Page, Ryan Yip, Jon Mills and Bryan DeCorso, they’re all Canadian. I see we have a couple Canadians on the roster, so hopefully Yip and Mills keep scouting the Canadian kids like Herbie was. People want to go south to play sports like baseball or golf, well we are south for them but not too far from home like the schools in the Deep South. The current pro success of those guys puts us on the map in Canada, we need to maximize that in recruiting.

That and the Deep South is, well, the Deep South. McGinty found out pretty quickly that the Deep South is the Deep South and is heading back to Ohio.

Yep. I guess she wanted to go to the best 2 public universities in Ohio. Usually people want to go from #2 to #1, but she's doing it in reverse.

Corey Conners finished T5 for BMW Championship and Taylor Pendrith finished T8.

RE: Kent Golfers in the Pros—2022
Since the PGA season just ended, worth looking at how everyone did:

Corey Connors (finished 26th) - A strong year with the highlight being a third place finish in the WGC match play tournament. 4 Top 10s,12 Top 25s and 20 made cuts in 25 tournaments. For whatever reason, he always seems to be having strong tournaments, but not really in contention to win. I can't help but feel there is going to be a weekend he puts it all together and gets the W though in the next year.

Taylor Pendrith (finished 47th) - It really was a great rookie year for Pendrith who finished high in the standings despite missing about 4 months with a broken rib. He was in strong contention twice, but failed to capitalize, ending the year with a T2, 3 Top 10s and 16 cuts made in 21 tournaments. He certainly proved he is a PGA player this season.

Mackenzie Hughes (finished 57th) - A solid year for Hughes with a second and 3 Top 10s. He made the cut in 16 of 27 tournaments. He struggled a bit more as the season went along having 4 straight cuts in the summer, but overall was really solid. Hughes will enter his 7th year on the PGA tournament.

My only disappointment in the year is that none of the Kent players scored a tournament win. I feel like Conners should have the best chance because he always plays at such a consistently high level, but it didn't happen again this year. Pendrith had two good shots, but had rough Sundays. Hughes wasn't really close though there was a little excited in the RSM Classic when he had a killer final round to move up to second. So, that's what I hope for in the 22-23 season. These three players are hitting their golf prime, so it could happen.

The PGA Canada season finished today. Ian Holt finished tied for 13th in the season ending tournament and 10th in the Fortinet Cup standings. Again, just week end and week out solid play from him for 10 tournaments, making 9 cuts, 8 Top 25 finished with a high point of a solo 2nd. Holt will get to pass through to the final round of Q school with a chance to earn a card on the Korn Ferry Tour.

Corey and Taylor have been pretty bad for the International team this weekend. Hopefully they can get a couple of points in singles today.

RE: Kent Golfers in the Pros—2022
With the lack of a golf off-season, we're off and running on the 2022-23 PGA season and Mackenzie Hughes is solo 2nd and one stroke back in the Sanderson Farms Championship.

In Q school news, Chase Johnson advanced to the 2nd Stage of Q school with a Top 10 performance in the 1st Stage. Ian Holt gets a pass all the way to the Final Stage with his PGA Canada Performance this year.
