Not all of it; far from it - but a lot of the stuff in this thread is a bit, uh, "out there". Problem is..........everybody would have differing opinions as to what is and isn't. But that's ok; I'm pretty sure Oliver doesn't get his cues from this board - yet, at least. (And remember...........bartow seemed to a few times. And we know his staff read it.)

But...................this all may not matter much, as I really think we'll be running into some serious Omicron trouble. I don't think most people realize how quickly it will get about everywhere. And it's too late now to stop it. We'll just have to "play it as it lays" - whatever that may come to mean on a sliding time scale. We may only play a few more games this season. That is NOT a prediction - just a possibility.

From the data posted thus far it appears it may spread a little easier but it’s far less deadly than earlier variants. If you’re vaxxed plus a boost you’re relatively well protected. No one is locking down pretty much world wide, so the season does not appear to be in any jeopardy. But, there’s a dark lining in every silver cloud.

Be prepared to adjust your understanding. Methinks you're not seeing the big picture clearly. Just sayin'.

No offense, but I trust the data and the science a little more than a poster's opinion on a message board. Just sayin'.

This is going to go off the rails soon if we keep it up, and it is irrelevant. The idea that basketball will shut down in any long-term or large scale way other than a possible cancelled game here or there is just not based on any type of reality. A repeat of 2020's reaction isn't going to happen.

Well, no offense (and none taken, other than perhaps a tiny bit of professional slight), but so do I. My statements come from my deep perusal of said science and data. And I'm quite sure I'm 'closer' to those things than any other poster here. While truly there is a huge amount of disparate information out there, it's not as conflicting as it appears to be on first sight. This will be widespread very quickly. And again, it is NOT my prediction that all sports events will be thrown into disarray - only warning that disruptions are more than possible. Way too early to know how it will all play out.

Well I’ll also take that as a professional slight, because you have no idea of my background, level of education, what I do for a living or number of scientific publications I have. I’ve always admired your arrogance. Kidding, not really.

Please, get back to basketball. I’m no longer commenting on this issue.

He has always held up his doctorate (I will grant he probably has one with that level of arrogance) as a sign he is more intelligent than everyone else. No, my dude, it means you a better educated in whatever your field is, doesn't mean you are smarter. If I want to know about 16th-century British lit or whatever you taught, I will seek you out otherwise I might consider your opinion but I am not granting it a greater weight because you put Dr in front of your last name.

I also have a doctorate but don’t need to put in my name. And my doctorate is actually in a scientific field. Meh - who cares this is about basketball.

I guessed that from your prior post, But as you said there is no need or point to flashing credentials on a SPORTS board. (unless you are a coach in THAT sport).
I was addressing that other poster who likes to talk down to people on the board because he has one.
You have been a pretty level headed poster.

Just for the record.............................

As most of you know, on the old board I was just "thedoctor", and then when we migrated here, that nick was taken, so now this is one I have just for continuity. "thedoctor" is something I've been known as for decades, and it just seemed easy way back when. There has been no attempt to "hold it up" in some fashion. That's a connotation you all have conjured up. It existed long before this board, and even before internet sports forums were "a thing". But yes, in fact I *have* been a coach in the sport of basketball (tho not at the university level). Not that that matters, really. Nor do I present myself as smarter than anyone else here. There's some mighty sharp folks in the room.

All that said...................I'm not a fan of anyone coming across as some know-it-all. I've tried to not ever go down that road, altho it may have seemed like it to some of you at times. That's a distasteful aura, I would agree. So I apologize if things I've said have come across that way. In fact, I'll consciously try to not be "that guy".
But *that* said....................whatever one's level of education, I am still pretty certain I know more about this virus than anyone else here. That's just an almost certain fact - not in any way bragging. I was just trying to bring some informed illumination to a distinct possibility as to what *could* happen.

Sorry, doctor. All due respect, you can be verbose at times, pedantic at others. Try speaking in plainer terms! The less you say, the better, sometimes, especially down south. You have valuable insights, but I think you suffer from overstatement. That’s my diagnosis. I knew you were a doctor but not surprised someone suggested literary guy. Don’t take the bait :)

"Pedantic", yes. I copped to that in May of 2019:

""Pedantic" - yeah, I'd probably cop to that. It's part of my training to be precise so as to minimize errors. Sorta in my DNA."

And I get that. Not rarely on this board, there is confusion because a poster may not fully state their point. So I *really* try to make sure I get my point across. Apparently, to a fault. And yes, I can cop to occasionally 'verbose', too, for the same reason. As to trying to speak in plainer terms...................I speak just the way I do in real life - I ain't tryin' to "put on airs". And I really don't want to offend anybody. I'll try to rein it in, but don't know how well I'll do.
And, again, I have a thick skin, so...................
