Is this a buy game or are we going to Greensboro next year?
The 3-8 Aggies are currently rated 6th by Kenpom in the Big South and #257 nationally, slightly ahead of Radford, Highpoint, UNC Asheville and USC Upstate in Big South ratings. In the preseason Coaches/Media poll they were 6th of 12 Big South teams.
Their 3-8 record includes very close losses @ UNCG (57- 53) that required a Spartan rally at the end to pull it out, and to Samford (neutral site, 77-75). The only D1 win thus far has been over 2-8 St Francis NY (neutral site, 73-67).
So, they are midlevel Big South, probably a team that would be battling UNCG near the middle of the SoCon.
Leading scorer and rebounder is Marcus Watson RS-FR a 6-6 220 physical stud at guard out of Buford, Georgia, who was a highly rated (top 100) 4* Oklahoma State recruit in 2019-2020 who redshirted and was dismissed from the team after a female student filed for a protective order alleging a sexual assault. He transferred to New Mexico State where he saw action in 12 games in 2020-21 averaging 6.5 minutes and 3.5 ppg. This is his 3rd school in 3 years. He is averaging 12.1 ppg, 4.5 rpg and 0.9 steals in 26.2 minutes.
A&T is .307 from 3 with 7.3 makes. 88% of their 3 pointers came from Horton (.422, 2.5 makes), Watson (.315, 1.5 makes), Beatty (.320 and 1.5 makes) and Milton Matthews (.273, 0.9 makes). Bigs Fillmore, Robinson and Morrice attempt almost no 3's.
Stats would suggest a tough, fairly low scoring defensive battle. The Aggies games are low scoring, as they average 68.2 ppg and allow their opponents 70.5 ppg. The Bucs score 70.5 and allow opponents 67.6. NC A&T is ranked 46th in D1 in steals with 9.2 per game. There’s not a whole lot of size in the paint (6-7 225 Sr Webster Filmore and 6-5 215 Jr Jeremy Robinson, with 6-11 235 Harry Morrice getting 12.8 minutes off the bench and limited production). But there is some size and physicality at guard (6-6 220 Watson, 6-5 200 JR Demetric Horton, 6-2 200 Sr David Beatty).
Kenpom favors the home standing Bucs 73-62. ETSU need to be rounding into shape for conference.
I somehow have a bad feeling about this game. Not predicting a loss - but also wouldn't be shocked to see one.
Oliver said this game worried him as well on the coaches show last night. They play a 2-3 zone and the bucs have struggled with that

NC A&T is without 3 of their 4 best players this season. Including a a 4-star recruit. They should be playing during Big South play. And KenPom is not good on it's rating system. UNCA is way above the teams mentioned in the previous post. Massey Ratings has UNCA at 202 and NC A&T in the 300's. And I do believe Asheville will beat ETSU at Kimmel Arena Saturday. KenPom sucks on it's rating system.

Well, that was some bs. I’d like to complain about the refs, I really would, but ETSU didn’t take care of the ball and simply missed too many shots when it mattered.

We shoot THREE free throws the whole game. That's full-on embarrassing.
Same with 18 (8 by LA Brewer) turnovers. We shot 51%, and 43% from 3 -- and lose. Wow.

I didn't see the game or score until now. Not sure what happened to y'all. A&T is not good this season. Missing their top-2 players potentially the entire season. But don't worry UNCA is playing its worst game of the season.

Yeah I guess we will see who pulls their head out their A%% Saturday, sounds like both teams played awful.
