Fickell is safe for at least 3-4 years, and by that time UC will match any offer in an attempt to keep him.

I think that's optimistic. No one knows what the football situation will be in 3 years and I am sure he will want to be in a favorable position. With schools giving out large extensions to keep good coaches and losing a good QB, I would not feel that way if a UC fan.

Timing has really worked out perfectly for Cincinnati. Do I believe Fickell would ultimately prefer to stay here no matter what until OSU or maybe something like Notre Dame opens up that is close to home? Yes. However, secondary to family and his wife's desire to raise their children in a community that fits their needs (good Catholic schools, able to visit family in Columbus, Midwestern values, etc.), is Fickell's desire to compete for championships.

If the Big 12 expansion didn't happen and we weren't on the doorstep of the College Football Playoff, I would be genuinely worried about all of these blueblood jobs. If we were 10-2 right now instead of 12-0 and looking at being a cash-strapped AAC school indefinitely, Luke would be getting antsy realizing he can't compete for national championships here. Now that we can prove to recruits that it's possible, have the Big 12 money/notoriety on the way, and an administration that is giving him everything they can to compete (like the indoor practice facility we're fundraising for), he is very unlikely to leave for anything other than a dream job.

This will start the dominos falling. Hold on to your seats. Going to lots of coaching changes coming before the bowls.

Of all the openings that have come up, Oklahoma is honestly the one that probably matches what the Fickell family would be looking for the most. If Norman/OKC were about 500 miles closer to Columbus, I would be terrified. And if we weren't going to the Big 12, I would also be terrified. But despite the resources Oklahoma has, Fickell arguably has a better chance to make the CFP going forward at Cincinnati than he would at Oklahoma. The SEC is going to be a meat grinder, and with LSU/Florida making new hires, Arkansas, Tennessee, and the Missisippi schools trending up, plus Alabama, Georgia, Texas A&M, and Texas... yikes. I'm sure Fickell would love to have more money, but his pay check isn't his top priority, and I've heard rumblings that there are likely contract renegotiations already going on behind the scenes. Fickell will get a nice pay bump this offseason, and probably and even larger one in two years. I'm guessing he'll get to $4 million+ for 2022 and between $5 and $7 million after we settle into the Big 12.

RE: BREAKING NEWS: Lincoln Riley leaves OU for USC
If anyone is wondering why Lincoln Riley would leave Oklahoma, look at what Nebraska has become in the Big Ten. He knows it will be an uphill battle recruiting and competing in the SEC, and OU will be losing most of its competitive advantages vs. their time in the Big 12. I don't think Oklahoma will slide as far as Nebraska has, but even with an expanded CFP on the horizon, it might be tougher to make the playoff in the SEC than it was in the Big 12.

Wow, that would be the mother of underwhelming hires. Most SMU fans I know aren't even sad he's leaving, and TCU fans aren't exactly jumping for joy either. Oklahoma can do much better. There are several coordinators with SEC ties who I would take over Sonny Dykes. Hell, I would take the UTSA coach over Sonny Dykes. Dave Aranda, Mark Stoops, Lane Kiffin (doubt he would be interested though)... plenty of better people I would at least call before Dykes.

Max floating that to make him look look a hot commodity. Norman would burn to the ground.

I was about to do a post update, but according to ESPN; the Sooners are eyeing Kliff Kingsbury.

Dave Aranda should be the top candidate for OU. Kliff is not going from a Super Bowl contender to recruit and compete against Saban and the rest of the SEC

Stoops taking the helm for the rest of the season. He could be just given the job if they win out.

For some reason...Im not really concerned with this. There are better candidates available. I am though surprised VT has waited this long to choose a replacement.

If he had another season with success under his belt it would just make too much sense with the geography.

Not sure the Hokie fans would go for a guy with one 7 win FBS winning season.

I guess Jimbo to LSU is next if Riley is headed to SC. What a strange year for college football.

"Win out"? The season is over except for their bowl game.
