RE: Rice vs. La Tech
Owls lost TOP 29:59 to 30:01. Owls also had 104 yards of penalties to only 35 for La Tech, much of which came on/after the final INT.

How the heck did the Owls manage to win? Oh yeah, they used a decent passing game with McMahon.

Rice HC Mike Bloomgren on Gabe Taylor's game-winning INT:

"I think he played with a heavy heart today. This is the 14th anniversary of his brother (Sean) passing away. Just the way the football gods worked, to have that last interception land in his hands was perfect for him."

CBSSports.com picked up the story, and it's currently on their front page. Includes a link to a tweet from the football team that shows the play.

Hope he sticks around.

21-31.

13:10 left in the game.

That’s plenty of time for 2 more Rice TDs and one defensive PAT for LaTech

Glad we got those two TDs and glad we converted the PATs to “avoid” my silly OT scenario…

(Not that there wasn’t plenty of other silliness to go around yesterday…)

A couple of positive notes I'm seeing in Chuck Pool's recap: Yesterday was the most points we scored in a conference game since UTEP 2016. It was also the first time since Charlotte 2016 that we won a conference game after starting the fourth quarter with a deficit. Montgomery's 70-yd dash was the longest run we've had since Otoviano's 80-yd rush vs ODU in 2018. Fresch's 48-yd punt return was the longest of any Owl since 1998 (Fresch was born in 2001; it's the longest of his lifetime).

Dead cat bounce.

Definitely the most fun I've had at a game in a while. Lots of strong individual efforts. Hopefully we can get a new coach installed soon enough to limit the portal damage.

"Attendance" stopped meaning attendance decades ago -- even before "literally" stopped meaning literally. :(

RE: Rice vs. La Tech
Finally got around to watching the recording of the game. People kept saying McMahon was the best QB on the roster, so I was excited to see it on tape. I didn't come away with that impression. Deep ball might be a *little* more accurate than Constantine and McCaffrey, but that's not saying that much. Probably two of his passes are INTs with better DBs. Nice movement and playmaking, seems like a decent option, but not sure he's best on roster. Thought La Tech's freshman QB looked more promising than any of ours
