I agree but people are desperate to be ADs.
WMU will be a stepping ground for his next job.
Which means as an AD he would have done some really good things here
Eh... EMU got sued in federal court because of what Heather Lyke did
She built back EMUs football program, hired Creighton out of know where, raised record money, and got a new facility. All at place like eastern

Yes... and then got sued because they were so far out of Title IX compliance that they had to cut sports and still aren't out of the woods from it. She spent the place into oblivion and then jumped ship and let the next person deal with it. Weatherbee had a press conference where he broke down in tears and said "I walked into a terrible situation. I knew the budget was bad. Didn't know how bad it was. Thought I could come in a conquering hero and generate revenue so we didn't have to do this. This should have been done a long time ago, but I’ll own it now. Would I have come here if I knew I’d be sitting here eight months later? I don’t really know.”

Didn't Proudfoot come from Arizona St? P5 experience is nice, but don't mean success.

It was so bad that she was extended by Pitt and She was recently approached by MSU for a gig. Gotta work miracles to get EMU out of the dump

I don’t understand this response. This is a bug, not a feature of how athletics works. I personally would really prefer the new AD not use WMU as his own little playground to get a new job. Lyke may be having a good career post-EMU, but EMU was not better off because she was there

It is not normal what KB did at WMU. To think someone will stay 20+ years at the same place is not typical in that line of work. Hire the best person for the job then when that person decides they want to move on, then hire the next best person for the job.

Western Herald article about the new AD. Check out the second to last paragraph. "“I dive into my work, that’s just who I am,” Bartholomae said. “I hope we (get to) a position where I have Power 5 schools calling me. It’s the furthest thing from my mind right now, but if that happens it’s because we built the right plan, we got the right people on board, and we executed it.”" Not even a month on the job and he's talking about leaving. I love his fire, passion - open to new ideas like the watch party at Lawson...but....c'mon man

If someone else thought or expressed as you just did wouldn't you think they were a little naive? Just because he isn't or doesn't say it doesn't mean it don't exist. Good taste or protocol?

I am not naive. It's in poor taste. I love WMU and it's been part of my life for four decades. I would rather people not use it for their own personal desires and own personal gain. I suppose loyalty is a thing of the past.

Who using who? Maybe WMU is using him? A P5 isn't going to come calling if he isn't producing results.
Poor taste to publicly say this, yes. But he is correct and appears to be motivated to elevate WMU athletic program, which is what we want, right?

WMU is paying him $290,000. That’s hardly “using him”.
And the notion that some P5 will hire him only if he elevates WMU is just not based in fact or what has happened at similar MAC schools. Was CMU elevated by Dan Heeke? Michael Alford? Was EMU elevated by Heather Lyke? Was Buffalo elevated by Warde Manual, Allen Greene, or Danny White? IMO - those departments are no better than ours and have all had to recently cut sports due to budget mismanagement.

The argument can be made that Dave Heeke did not "elevate" Central Michigan's athletic department. Many CMU fans will say he did the opposite by hiring Enos and Bonamego who tanked their football program. They were pleasantly surprised, and pleased, when Heeke left for Arizona, where he seems to be struggling.

Lyke oversaw significant growth in the school's athletic programs thanks to a 51% increase in athletic donations. This increased funding was used for capital upgrades to athletic facilities. The school won seventeen MAC titles during her tenure. The football team made its first bowl appearance since 1987.
Manuel was responsible for the hiring of Turner Gill as the head coach of Buffalo's football team. Under Gill the team achieved its first winning season and first invitation to a post season bowl game since the program joined NCAA Division I athletics in 1999. Manuel has helped change Buffalo's image and marketing strategy. Immediately after he took office, Manuel replaced the old "Bull Head" logo with a sleeker, more modern bull. Manuel also increased the athletics budget from $11 million to $25 million within three years of his hiring
Greene was instrumental at Buffalo in getting approval for an $18-million indoor practice facility that had been on the docket for nearly two decades. He's also just the third African-American athletics director in the history of the SEC.
White left for UFC (not a P5) and he did a pretty good job there.
Alford hired eight head coaches and guided Central Michigan to a 600% revenue increase.
I would be very happy with our new AD if he can elevated WMU in any of these areas, even if he later departs for a higher paying job at a P5.

What are these? Straight from their bios? None of this meaningful. This is EXACTLY the problem with college athletics right now.
Lyke left before they got sued in federal court because of her spending. The new AD literally said he wouldn't have taken the job if he would have known how bad their financial situation was. And wow - first bowl game since 1987. You have to be .500. Good job Creighton
Warde Manuel got them a new logo - good job. The school President sets the athletic department budget, not the AD.
Greene raised money for football indoor and then cut 4 sports to save $2m and then left. Gutless
Alford was so good at fundraising they had to cut sports right after he left. And hiring coaches means absolutely nothing. That just means he fired people and hired his own.
