I'm bad about changing directions, sometimes. Maybe this should get it's own thread, but I do have a question.
I've noticed more and more players seemingly being recruited to some catholic schools and certain public High Schools (Princeton comes to mind). I'm sure it's always happened to some extent. Is it happening more than it used to though? It sure seems that way.
"Recruiting" is against OHSAA rules; specifically “any attempt to recruit a prospective student-athlete for athletic purposes is strictly prohibited.” There are various forms of punishment based on the severity.
Princeton was penalized previously for recruiting violations: https://www.wcpo.com/sports/high-school-...ll-program
Moeller as well: https://www.wcpo.com/sports/high-school-...ll-program
I'm sure there's more examples. In Dayton Trotwood-Madison used to be accused of it but I'm not sure if they were ever caught doing it.
I don't know if it's happening more than previously but lots of schools have gone to "open enrollment" and will take student from outside their district which could make it seem more prevalent. And honestly if you're a student athlete and can go to a better school district with better athletics I'm sure it's something you would pursue.
Geez
High school rule books are also a headache like NCAA.
They said that Princeton Coach no longer works there. He basically was let go because of this it sounds like.
Head coach is Someone else - Andre Parker. I thought the formet bearcat football player was the head coach there. Or is he an assistant? I hope he wasn’t involved in this because I like having a contact at that school. At every top high school.
You're thinking of Mike Daniels. He left Princeton to take a job on the Army football staff. It was something like recruiting coordinator. I was shocked that the time cause that move never felt like a step up. I would have thought he could have landed as a position coach somewhere like UC or Miami.
No stranger to the UB football program, Mike Daniels was hired as running backs coach and recruiting coordinator by Coach Linguist prior to the 2021 season - his second stint with the Bulls after also serving as UB's running backs coach in 2010. He returns to Buffalo following brief stints at Akron and Army.
From 2017-2020, Daniels was the head coach of his alma mater Princeton High School in Cincinnati, OH. He helped turn around the Vikings program, leading them to a 6-2 overall record including 6-1 in the Greater Miami Conference in 2020. Princeton was 6-5 in 2019, reaching the postseason for the first time since 2007.
Daniels was the wide receivers coach at Kennesaw State from 2014 to 2016. He led the wide receivers to an impressive inaugural season, as the Owls' offense averaged 136.8 receiving yards per game. The group totaled 79 receptions and 10 touchdown catches throughout a 6-5 campaign. The receivers also averaged 19.1 yards per catch on the season.
Under Daniels' guidance, redshirt freshman Justin Sumpter flourished as Kennesaw State's primary aerial target. He caught 26 passes for 525 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 20.2 yards a receptions to rank sixth in the country in yards per receptions. Sumpter had three catches of 46 or more yards, including a 69-yard TD receptions in the inaugural game at East Tennessee State.
Daniels also guided one of four seniors on the team, wide out P.J. Stone, to become KSU's first graduate in program history. Stone earned Big South Conference All-Academic honors and graduated magna *** laude with a 3.75 GPA and majored in exercise science.
Daniels joined the KSU coaching staff after spending three seasons (2011-13) as running backs coach at Statesboro High School in Georgia. He spent the 2013 season as offensive coordinator. While coaching at Statesboro High, Daniels and the Blue Devils compiled a three-year record of 28-6 (.823) and advanced to the state playoffs each season.
Daniels' coached one season (2010) at the University at Buffalo where he served as the Bulls' running backs coach and academic liaison. He began his coaching career at Alcorn State where he worked as tight ends coach from December 2007 to June 2008.
Prior to arriving at Buffalo, Daniels was a graduate assistant/wide receivers coach at his alma mater, the University of Cincinnati. That season, the Bearcats went 12-0 in the regular season, captured the 2009 Big East Conference title and received a BCS Bowl berth to the 2010 Allstate Sugar Bowl.
Daniels was a four-year letterwinner at Cincinnati from 2003-07 where he was a triple threat as a wide receiver, running back and return man.
Daniels served as a team captain and earned the Jim Kelly Spirit Award in 2007 while playing for head coach Brian Kelly. He was a multiple-year honoree on the Bearcats Academic Honor Roll en route to earning his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice
