RE: 11/07 Polls: UTSA #15 AP, #16 Coaches Poll
UTSA reminds me of 2014 Marshall. Good team overall but they haven't really had a "prove it" game. However, unlike Marshall, UTSA has a coach that will see them fight until the bitter end..of the season.
A UTSA - Marshall match-up is worthy of more than a Friday on CBSSN as well, assuming that is the match-up that C-USA has in the Conference Championship.

Think the prove it game was @Memphis being down 21-0 and coming back to win. Traylor has this team dialed in and all in on the culture. The offense is explosive with the run or pass, the defense is 3rd in country in run stopping and 1st or 2nd in defensive TDs and Special teams has been rock solid. It's been a magical season.
I still think WKU wins out and possibly meets UTSA for the CUSA championship in a rematch but this time at the Dome but Marshall and UAB could still play spoiler.

No offense, but I'd rather UTSA play Marshall than WKU again. :)

We're the only team to beat Memphis at the Liberty Bowl since defending national champs (at the time) UCF did it in 2018. And UCF only beat them by 1 point that game.
Memphis is a different animal at home. That win is super underrated.

Yep, there was no stopping them. They scored at will and he wasn't even playing. I heard an Ootsa fan saying that Harris might have one more year after this one but even if he did I think he has the capability to play in the nfl already. He has smarts, the legs, and the arm to make it. He's ready and I'll be selfish here, I don't want my Miners facing him again either. LOL
He has 2 more years if he wants them. Has a medical RS he can use and the Super Senior rule. Doubt he uses them both, but feel fairly confident that he'll be back next season now that Traylor is returning.
You think so? I don't. Why would Harris risk getting hurt just so that he can play for Traylor? It doesn't make any sense and if he had any he would put his name out there for pro football. He's ready and doesn't need one or two more years of fbs football. It'll be a case of show me the money. We had a player a couple(?) of years ago that jumped to the nfl and is doing pretty good. You might know of him, his name is Aaron Jones and now he's even making commercials. We at UTEP were sad to see him go but no one was upset with him for watching out for himself first. As a matter of fact the majority were telling him, leave before Coach Kugler kills you on the field and you'll lose your chance for the nfl and for nothing because Kugler's entire play mind was based on poor ol' Jonesy who was sometimes getting pretty banged up and for nothing. You should have seen how badly he looked at the Ut austin game. He was the whole coaches scheme because that's all Kugler knew, 3 yards and a ball of dust.
If Harris stays and gets hurt he'll rue the day he made that decision. Even as a second stringer in the nfl he'll still be making big bucks. So don't try to come here and tell us how many years he has left, you're only thinking of your fan ego and the school but not what's best for Harris.
He's made big strides this year but he's not an NFL QB right now. It wasn't that long ago when he was more of a running threat than a passing threat and struggled to hit even 200 yards passing in a game.
Another solid year would actually help his NFL chances, although I still think they'd be pretty slim.

The NFL is not going to be interested in Harris because he has has 2 or 3 knee tears.

Their most impressive wins are over
4-5 Illinois, which has only beaten two teams with winning records
6-3 UTEP
5-4 WKU
5-4 Memphis, which lost to Tulsa and Temple
Those are the only three teams with winning records that UTSA has beaten this year.

You mean the same Illinois team that beat No. 7 Penn State and No. 20 Minnesota?

- Cincinnati has beaten two teams with winning records; Notre Dame and UCF.
- SMU has beaten zero teams with winning records.
- Houston has beaten one team with a winning record: SMU.
- Louisiana has beaten three teams with winning records and one of them is FCS; Nicholls, South Alabama, and App State
- Coastal Carolina has beaten one team with a winning record: Troy.
- San Diego State has beaten two teams with winning records; Utah and Air Force
We can analyze the rest of their schedules as we wish, but when you're a G5, it's a given that you won't have the most challenging of schedules. All you can do is beat those you do play, and on the field btw, not on paper. On paper, few thought we'd even beat Illinois or Memphis. So take your paper analysis elsewhere.

And every one of App State's opponents but two have at least a .500 record and App has a win against the AP Number 14, yet is not ranked. Meanwhile Fresno State is (was) ranked for beating San Diego State, while also having two losses. It's a beauty contest.
How many journalists who vote in the AP Poll grew up wanting to be sports writers? How many actually understand the game of football?
Rankings aren't done based on Strength of Schedule.

Slight downtick in the number of non-P5 teams in the poll.
It will be interesting to see if some teams make it into the final AP poll, like Ball St. and Buffalo did last year.

I mean, Arkansas State only lost to them by 5, and to Tulsa by 7
..then to Louisiana by 1.
I think it's a match-up game. I really, really want to see how UTSA matches up with Marshall on both sides of the ball. Marshall's offensive staff seems to have figured out that Warp speed all ge long isn't their best bet to win games, and it's worked out well.
Obviously WKU is going to be a huge test for them but WKU is very much in the Big 12 mold of all offense, no defense right now, especially against teams with even decent offenses.

Assuming UTSA handles business vs S. Miss and UAB also wins we could see another UTSA game flexed to national tv. Or at least that is my hope.

That would be good for UTSA and bad for UAB if that happens. I personally believe UTSA will curb stomp UAB into oblivion and would prefer that did not happen on national tv.

Always gives me anxiety playing UAB. That's why we play the games. Think ultimately it would be great for both schools qnd should be a lot of AAC talk.
