RE: MWC statement on realignment
Gonzaga would be interesting. Would they look at 14? Hawaii is already in as all sports or football only? Aside from that, there is no one else that is realistic. But 1-2 power Bball schools would be ideal (I don't see the cultural fit with Zags, however, but it may not matter now that BYU is gone).

SMU/Tulsa not happening. Makes no sense to move unless Navy leaves.

Hawaii is FB only and they’re Big West members for the other sports.

The MWC is holding the 12th spot for Gonzaga in case they change their mind especially now that BYU is leaving. At worst, they’ll ask Wichita State again if they’re interested now that the AAC lost three schools. NMSU is there as well, solid basketball and baseball. Could do a football schedule agreement that can work as an independent but I could see NMSU as a third option in case Gonzaga and Wichita say no again. They’re not going anywhere so the MWC can wait.

NMSU would make a lot of sense. But why haven't they added them already for Olympic sports? Did the MWC just have a running hold for Zags? There is no way they could have anticipated the fallout with the Big 12 and BYU when they last restructured after Utah/TCU/BYU left.

If they can get Gonzaga thats a great add. If not 11 works well for basketball.

I’ll say it again: the MWC will add two teams in Texas, possibly both in the central time zone.

Rice and UTEP were considered in the past. They still make sense, particularly if it got them out of a bloated CUSA

If you were Rice and UTEP would you rather play:
UTSA, N Texas, La Tech, USM, UAB
or
New Mexico, Colorado St., Air Force, Wyoming, Utah St?

Might depends on who rolls, if anyone, but I'd generally agree. They'll have California locked down no matter who leaves. Adding New Mexico State back could also be an easy backfill.

NMSU is not going anywhere so the MWC can ask Gonzaga and Wichita State if they’re interested. If not, then NMSU is still there but the question is, do they really need a 12th member for basketball though?

Whenever a conference talks about the solidarity of it's membership they think somebody is about to leave.

That is the feeling I get reading it. All eyes on Boise State.

Will the AAC make sweetheart deals for a couple of MWC schools and will they offer all sports memberships? It might take a strategy like that to lure BSU and SDSU and the AAC needs adds like that to keep their position as the top G5 or tweener conference if you prefer.

We have enough room to add a bunch of them to cut down on their travel. Boise, SDSU, CSU, and UNLV (just for my selfish away game needs). Add that to ECU, SMU, Memphis, USF, and....others(?), and the conference still isn't anything to sneeze at.
