A big nothingburger, but what else could they say?

So they will defend the GOR agreement, which expires in four years, in court. Big whoopee.

The Big 12 exit fee is two years of media payouts. So it’s probably not even a court battle. I would guess Texas and Oklahoma would join The SEC in 2024…. Two years before the GOR expires.

There are 4 years left in the Big 12s GOR including this year.

Since no one is changing this year we are looking at 3 years to bargain and negotiate.

The most likely outcome in my opinion is an exit after the 2022-2023 season. This year and a farewell lame duck year while Oklahoma and Texas forfeit all revenues for the final 2 years.

As long as Texas and OU make good on any Big 12 TV revenue hits in the final two years I think it would be best to move on and prepare for the future

IMHO there a 6 very competitive options for just 2-4 spots

Technically there's nothing stopping the Big 12 from adding 6 or even 8 teams and putting the AAC out of business (or just starting a bigger chain reaction and the Sun Belt or CUSA is out of business).

True—the Big 12 will have to find the right number.

Smaller means bigger slices of the revenue pie but a 12 or even 14 team Big 12 would help them separate themselves from the G5.

Personally, I like 12. I think you try to get BYU. If they reject the offer, take 4 AAC schools.

I agree on BYU with rest from American probably. BYU is in better shape as independent than were with a 12 team playoff though so not a guaranteed yes (would lean to though).

I don’t think the Big 12 can afford to be picky regarding BYU. They are hands down the biggest add they could bring in.
