PAC-12 reaches TV deals for '25 Oregon St., Washington St. games

Quote:The Pac-12 has finalized its television partnerships for the 2025 season, with The CW, ESPN and CBS combining to show the 13 home games involving Oregon State and Washington State.

"Having Pac-12 football featured across three leading broadcasters in CBS, The CW and ESPN in 2025 will provide tremendous exposure to showcase Oregon State, Washington State and our brand in the Pac-12's final season before expansion," Pac-12 commissioner Teresa Gould said in a statement. "We are thrilled to continue our partnership with The CW, to welcome a new partner in CBS Sports and to see a return of Pac-12 football on ESPN."

Why would we want to go?

Agreed. Why in the world would we want to join to currently constructed Pac-12?

3 regular season football games and three regular season men’s basketball games on CBS. Everything else on the CBS sports network.

AAC has a much better media package.

I totally agree. The “ new” PAC-12 is not even a shadow of its former self. It’s a very remnants that inherited a name.
For TX State, I think, it’s a win. Raises their profile again. The state has recently pumped in a big pile of money for new buildings and upgrades in anticipation of their enrollment to approach 50,000 by 2035. And, you have to admit, they’ve been successful, recently in football, baseball and volleyball. They are trying to reach a UTSA level. And the state has given them the dough to do it.

Utah Tech, previously known as Dixie State, will join the Big Sky. Utah State will move to the PAC-12 in 2026.

This is the death knell for the WAC. The 3 remaining WAC members, Abilene Christian, Tarleton State, and UT-Arlington, are going to merge with 5 ASUN members to turn their "United Athletic Conference" football-only joint venture conference into an all-sports conference. It's been much slower than the collapse of the SWC, but the WAC has got to be the second most important conference to completely fold.

Yeah, I typed State instead of Tech. oops

As for the WAC, the way I see it is they survived. It's their autobids that are important. The UAC is going away as a single sport shell. Then the WAC rebrands as the UAC.

Coincidentally both boasted the membership of Rice at one point (in both cases, the inflection point).

I blame Stanford and Cal.

For the few weeks that PAC 12 was down to 4 members… that would have been the best window of opportunity for Stanford to lead the rebuild of a western conference in the mold of the Magnolia with an academic cornerstone.

Once those two moved to the ACC, I lost most interest in joining the PAC. The conferences moves since then have reinforced that. If they could have attracted Tulane, (or even UNT) then, maybe.

Should be a good rivalry between PaC and AAC next few years for the top G6 bragging rights.

We’re definitely in the right conference between those two for the next 3-5 years (or until the next major shift).

Stanford and Cal had little choice after USC, UCLA and Washington all departed. They knew the PAC TV contract would be dramatically reduced.

That's assuming the dollar has to be pursued as the first priority. My impression of the Magnolia League idea is not maximizing dollars but optimizing for a competitive cohort of academically similar institutions that maintains alumni interest, if nothing else. It's the conference best serving a market niche rather than just another league where every school is gunning to be #1 in the country (when really 0 to 4 members have any chance more than once a generation).

I think it’s time to rename this thread. There is nothing new about the frequent realignment moves.

Maybe Continuous Realignment Thread?

No, after 2500+ posts it’s time to retire it and start a new(er) one.

Which is exactly what I did a year or two back… now, where did I leave that thing?

Reports that the PAC is seeking to add a football only member from Texas.

Rice & UTSA being mentioned.

The new PAC-12 for football…

Oregon St
Washington St
Boise St
San Diego St
Colorado St
Utah St
Fresno St
Texas St

Doesn’t appear that Rice or UTSA would be a fit. Maybe Sam Houston St?
