Ohio’s alltime leading scorer in HS? Seems like a pretty strong get for a walk-on. Never heard of him. Not much on the web about him. Thoughts?

Central Ohio's All-Time leading scorer. I believe he's in the top 20 for all of Ohio. That's an incredible addition as a walk-on.

RE: CJ Anthony
My co-worker does a bit of HS scouting for his friend who is a coach. In 2019 he told me about Anthony as a guy who he thought would be a good addition to UC, and the only knock against him was size. My co worker was not quite sure if we would recruit a guy who could actually shoot though, which was fair. Excited to see if he can actually make an impact on the team.

The concern would be DIII. That said he is free in year one. No downside.

So we have two walk-ons now, right? CJ Anthony and Maro Egodotaye. Banks was formerly a walkon, but he has a scholarship now.

Do we know if Banks' scholarship is for this year only?

Chad Brendel has said his scholarship is only promised for this year. Next year, I would imagine he will be off scholarship.

IDK if size will be a problem. He's taller than Justin Jenifer was (listed at 5'10 but legitimately 5'8 at best). He is the same height but thicker than Cane Broome.

RE: CJ Anthony
Worst case scenario is that he is practice depth. Best case is that he becomes an upper class role player.

Central Ohio’s alltime leading scorer? What does that even mean, lol. Are we going regional just to get in the record book?

Maro Egodotaye is actually headed to Link Year Prep this year, where Hayden Koval also attended

That’s the way I look at it. Perhaps we win the karma lottery and he’s this generation’s Steve Logan.

I was the leading point scorer on my driveway hoop as a kid. I think that deserves a scholly

Walk on's are no risk. If he's decent, that's just gravy.

According to the OHSAA, Anthony's 2395 would be 16th all time assuming all those points were scored as an Ohio based player (I think they are).

Would be interesting to break those down into pre and post 3 point line.
Some of the long time agoers might have more points if they were distance shooters.

Another name will soon be added to this list; Brayden Sipple from my humble alma mater, Blanchester. He finished his career with 2,485 points, good for 12th all-time. Both Sipple and Anthony would have finished higher if not for the COVID-shortened season. I believe Sipple should have received more Division I looks (he had one offer from Detroit early on), but playing for Blanchester doesn't do much for one's profile. He'll be playing for Division II Cedarville in the fall, but I won't be shocked if he blows up there and transfers up to a low- or mid-major Division I school later.

I think we'll see Wes continue to utilize the preferred walk-on route due to his own college experience. Love having Ohio kids walk on who may have a chance to contribute later in their careers.
