RE: Football preview
Another overlooked point is many noticed our offense had improved without noting last year was the first year that CC was the offensive coordinator.

I didn't see any mention of special teams which is a,glaring omission. Julian is,a defense's best friend ditto Ryland on kick offs. And Ryland is a game changer on offense if he continues to improve his consistency.
Agreed. These pre-season reviews all seem to ignore special teams, which should be a real difference-maker for the Eagles this year. They also seem to ignore the Eagles' success in red-zone defense last year, and I would say somewhat understandably are unaware of the potential impact the transfers CC has brought on board could have.
I don't mind these low rankings in the pre-season because it could make the Eagles a team opponents might look past thinking they are an easy win. Sometimes there is an advantage to playing from the underdog position. I still maintain this team will be the sleeper team of the MAC, if not the NCAA.
And man would I love to see this team pull off the upset at Camp Randall! I have my hotel room reserved in Madison for that weekend.
Be careful in wisconsin - my sister lives in milwaukee and when i went to visit her once she offered me an 'award winning local beer' and it was a pabst blue ribbon.

I'll drink a case of Pibbers if it helps the Eagles pull an upset!

Don't knock good 'ol PBR. I'm a huge beer "enthusiast" and rarely touch the major corporation brews, but PBR will always have its special place in my fridge.

I think we may see Mike Haney return to de from Dr this year. I think the only player not on the roster yet is our late signed juco tackle.

RE: Football preview
This was pretty interesting from ESPN. They ranked the most stable programs for the 2021 football season based on coaching, roster, and performance. Eastern checks in at number nine in the country:
"9. Eastern Michigan: 38.6 (18.0 coach stability, 15.2 roster stability, 5.3 performance stability)
Seven years ago, Chris Creighton took over what was basically a smoking crater of a football program. No history, no recent success. The Eagles haven't broken through to a division or conference title yet, but they went to three bowls in four years from 2016-19, and the two-deep is loaded with experience. What a turnaround this has been."

FYI, it looks like all the freshmen/transfers have their numbers, along with some guys switching numbers (Drummond is now #1), on the EMU site now.

FYI, I noticed Chuck Bullough is back on the coaching staff as a Senior Defensive Analyst.
Usually those analysts are used for game planning but maybe we can get Chuck to help our DEs again too.

Great news. Bullough can coach. Coaches who can coach don't sit unemployed long.

Wasn't he at MSU? Did their coaching change cost him his job?

Probably. But MSU's loss is our gain.

In 2018 at MSU he won a national coaching honor for defensive line coach. He is a great coach and I am glad he is back at EMU.

Wowza we have Coach Bullough back at EMU. This is a very, very big deal for trying to win a MAC Championship. I know ETough credited Coach Bullough with Maxx’s development. When coach Bullough was our D line coach, we actually could stop the run. If coach Bullough is here next season, I will predict we win the MAC. He’s a great recruiter, motivator, and ingame strategist as well from what ETough told me.
Signing coach Bullough is like signing a 5 star DE :-)

So if you run down the 2021 schedule block on the left side of the page game by game and look at ESPN's Matchup Predictor, Eastern is given a 9-3 edge, with Wisconsin, Toledo, and Central as the 3 where Eastern loses.

Very interesting, that is one of the more bullish predictions I've seen. Here are Eastern's odds of winning each game according to ESPN's football power index:
St. Francis: 96.6%
Wisconsin: 9.1%
UMass: 88.6%
Texas State: 70.2%
Northern Illinois: 54.9%
Miami-Ohio: 71.2%
Ball State: 51.8%
Bowling Green: 86.9%
Toledo: 27.4%
Ohio: 65.5%
Western: 50.9%
Central: 39%
