So if you run down the 2021 schedule block on the left side of the page game by game and look at ESPN's Matchup Predictor, Eastern is given a 9-3 edge, with Wisconsin, Toledo, and Central as the 3 where Eastern loses.
Very interesting, that is one of the more bullish predictions I've seen. Here are Eastern's odds of winning each game according to ESPN's football power index:
St. Francis: 96.6%
Wisconsin: 9.1%
UMass: 88.6%
Texas State: 70.2%
Northern Illinois: 54.9%
Miami-Ohio: 71.2%
Ball State: 51.8%
Bowling Green: 86.9%
Toledo: 27.4%
Ohio: 65.5%
Western: 50.9%
Central: 39%
It does seem to be a bit too bullish is favor of EMU. Hope it's spot on perfect though. I'd put the odds of beating CMU higher than beating WMU.

All of this is fine, BUT do we know anything about practices? Who looks good? Who is hurt? etc.

Steve are you checking EMU football twitter or CC twitter? CC gave an update on first practice with pads. He says he is really pleased with the defense over the last two days praises special teams and declines to single out any individuals.

We are getting lots of NFL scouts attention. Curious to which players they are interested in? Ryland? Julien?

This, to me, is the opposite of TMI, too little info? Once again without local press we know almost nothing.
Come the first game, we may have an all-MAC candidate and we'll say, "Wow, I didn't know he was that good..."

Word I'm getting is that the team is looking pretty good after the first week of Fall camp and first day in full pads. Defense is looking strong (solid signs of improvement), running back corps is the sh*ts (could light the MAC on fire), TE's and WR's are showing a lot, and some of the transfers are already showing their worth. First scrimmage is Saturday...waiting to hear how that goes. No word on any significant injuries, but that all is typically held close to the vest.

I'll take that to the bank. That's 'actionable intelligence.' I'll take EMU for $25 to win the MACC.
So "everyone' seems to like our defense much better this year...

Thank Cid. I have voiced my frustration to EMU for a lack of coverage and it seems recently in the last 48 hours we have at least had some soundbites from Haney and CC. I understand not wanting to share too much for the rest of the MAC but the excitement for this team should be big this year and early coverage would get everyone on board. Can't believe we are 21 days away from kickoff!! Cant wait

What changes on the front four and LB corps? If there was any glaring weakness last year it was watching CMU and Ball State hit us for over 300 yards rushing.

What I'm hearing is that with a full off-season of non-restricted workouts and lifting, guys are stronger and quicker and that is showing in drills and in the full-pad practices they have had. Granted it's still early, but my source plays directly across from that D-line, and he says he can tell a difference from last season.

I note that Merritt is now 285 and,Ramirez 250. Swindle II and Manior could contribute right away and so could Randall if he is,added to the, roster this year

I'm now at the stage (one week into fall practice) where press releases and bios mean little, I'd rather have a fly on the wall in CC's office or something like this...
No one knows this stuff better than coaches and players. Sounds good.

Yep. Thankfully three weeks from today is gameday (!!!) meaning we should get a depth chart in less than three weeks which should gives some some actual insight.

This kind of coach's tweet tells me nothing....
https://twitter.com/CoachLScott70/status...81568?s=20
Doesn't look like that was the intent of the Tweet though. Seems more like he was trying to inspire his player who likely check Twitter first thing in the morning.

Speaking of depth chart, they did have one in the media guide. This obviously doesn't take into account fall practice, so when we get a week one depth chart that should show who has been improving. I don't think I can post a picture but you can find the media guide on the official EMU site. Here it is:
X: Knue-Dennis Smith
Z: Dummond-Small

LT: Johnson-Kadri
LG: Sow-Douglas
C: Van Hoeven-Bates

I'm not sure this is completely accurate. I asked Alex about this listing him at RG and Douglas at LG (Alex has been at LG each year) and he was surprised at that. He said that he has still been drilling at LG, and Dimitri has been drilling at RG. Even through this past week. So neither is getting reps at the position the media guide lists. My thought is someone was filling in the blanks on a position chart template and inadvertently switched them. This is probably 99% accurate, but not 100%.

Bill Connelly has us at 100 in his latest SP+ Ranking. SP+ takes into account recent history, recruiting and returning production primarily.
Eastern's offense SP+ ranks 39th. Defense? 125 out of 130.
