It’s like the players they once relied on they all of a sudden seem no longer interested in? Recruits from previous regime, I almost wonder if they will keep all of them playing. Hammock likes younger guys, will Pugh and Deveaux really still play?

IMO, Hammock shuffles players in and out per the pro experience he has. The transfer portal functions like a vehicle of free agency. As the season approaches he continues to assess and then (hopefully) constructs/retains the core plus backups. ... Or I could be wrong. It happens.

Honestly, with the new transfer rules and portal we will see a lot of players come and go. College football has become college basketball with the constant roster turnovers. Who knows if these are players the coaches felt wouldn't be major contributors or how many of these players felt they should be starters so now they want to transfer.

It probably says a lot that most of our transfers aren't going to other FBS programs or getting better offers. For example, Robinson to Texas State, J.D. Harris going to Chattanooga, Maximillian Thrower to Morgan St, Caleb Wright to Northern Michigan, etc.

Most of the guys leaving have to go FCS because they didn’t get any playing time at NIU. But many of them are just are guys who are rightfully buried on the depth chart. It’s the decent or guys with potential I wonder about not getting a fair chance because they weren’t Hammock recruits: Cole, Love, Goston, Henderson and Mattox. I’m sure every coach tends to want to develope their guys. So these players might feel that and it’s why they’re leaving.

Honestly Cole is the only guy I can’t figure why hammock didn’t use him.

The rest all had reasons. Love was “fast” but not really explosive - too small to be anything but a gadget WR. Henderson was too small to be a hammock safety. Mattox never did anything so I can’t so for sure what the issue is, might just be a talent thing. Goston was a weird one - I know in an interview I know hammock said he was in the mix to start. Then he vanished.

Outside of Cole the others are development projects. It’s not that Hammock has it in for Carey guys. It’s that he would rather develope unproven hammock guys over unproven Carey guys. Pugh, Tucker, Devaux...he doesnt have to invest in them. They’re proven. But when
It comes to unproven talent he may not want to invest that energy into guys he didn’t recruit. Love is the same guy as Urwiler. But Hammock is gonna invest in Trey and not Michael.

I would say that is accurate.

I am also going to say I think Trey U > Love.
