Wood doesn't operate in a vacuum.
Decisions he makes are subject to "influence" from the Office of the President, the Board of Visitors, and ODAF - and of course the
budgetary considerations of a non private institution.
During the WS era, there have been two (IMO) obvious and glaring issues.
The first being Karen Barefoot. That "mistake" was resolved fairly quickly. Nikki McCray was an excellent hire as a replacement. We shall see re Milton-Jones.
The second was the the time of retention of Bobby Wilder. That was almost entirely out of Dr Selig's hands. Indeed my understanding is that WS wanted him gone far sooner.
As noted above, the state of non revenue sports is very good.
What many
here on this board consider a disaster is the tenure of Jeff Jones.
However, the office of the President, and the BOV might not see it that way. Consider;
He has a winning (.645 record) in his time here. In eight seasons he has four post season appearances. He has had only one losing season.
The above stats are not likely to move the BOV or the Office of the President into supporting a change, especially considering budgetary implications.
As far as the Conference move, WS did not operate in a vacuum, and in no way was he the final "decider".
Given the above, the WS extension should be no surprise.
FYI, if anyone is interested in the approval process of Ricky Rahne, this link is interesting and enlightening.
