He gone.

Get over it.

I am not a shill for Brannen. I am a voice asking for sanity where there is none. I do hope he gets paid though.

Remember, the word fan comes from fanatic. The lack of objectivity here is fun to watch - and poke fun at.

If only Brannen's recruits had been this loyal to him.

If you weren't a Brannen "shill" then you wouldn't be so resentful of the new coach.

This fails logically.

What’s subjective about finishing the regular season barely above .500 and having basically your whole team walk out on you including your entire freshman class? Were things looking particularly good “objectively” at that point?

And please don’t cite getting to the conference championship game. Outside of Houston- the conference was GARBAGE. Wichita State was the luckiest team in the history of the word luck and got shown the door in the first round by Drake. There’s really no argument for any other team besides Memphis being any good. Oh and we didn’t beat them either.

I would think that this certainly qualifies as a prima facie case of being a troll.

Remind me to thank GTS for the ignore feature.

He was mildly entertaining in a I can’t believe he licked the frozen flagpole kind of way when I only thought he was a deep fake X troll.

RE: What does successful Miller time look like?
My expectations of Coach Miller are simple:
1 - "Represent the C" Engage with the students and the fans. Be a cheerleader for the program, your kids and the University. Be proud to be part of Bearcat Nation. and all that stuff. Be part of the community in a non-basketball way. Realize that the Bearcat "brand" can be almost just as strong here as the Tar Heel brand is there

2 - Give me a team I want to watch. Please notice I didn't put a number of Ws or Ls next to that. I've been a UC fan since the late 70s so I've watched a lot of Bearcat teams get "out talented" but very seldom did I see teams that were unwatchable. For me, this team was just that. For the first time in literally 40 years I didn't CARE when they played after about the half way point of the year. I still hoped they would win, but I couldn't justify investing an afternoon to watch.

3 - Get your kids an education and run a clean program. Hopefully we have a few come through that leave for the NBA early, so I won't say graduate everyone. Progress them through school and do it without all the negativity surrounding big time college athletics today. Winning isn't everything or even the most important thing.

4 - Be YOU and F the world! No, not Bobby Knight throwing chairs or Huggins in that bright yellow suit crazy. If that means game scores of 98-95 and playing like Loyola Marymount of old - so be it. If that means 61-64 and back cutting all day like Princeton - so be it. Your team, your philosophy, your culture. Just be open and honest about it. Because at the end of the day... it's your a$$. So do you, and own it.

I may be old school... and I am... but all the other stuff like Ws and Ls and tourney appearances and Sweet 16s and beating X and recruiting will fall into place, if you take care of those types of things. JMO

You reinforce his "lack of objectivity" point by intentionally ignoring the fact that this was the flukiest and most unique season in college basketball history. Plenty of excellent programs and excellent coaches had very difficult and uncharacteristic seasons including the mentor of our current coach.

While I always love to be entertained, personally I'm not too particular about what style WM plays. I was just fine watching Mick's boring rock fights as long as the team was winning. For me, the apathy of this past season had more to do with the team just not being that great, plus just the general weirdness of the Covid year.

I mean, for sure, I hope he employs a style that's effective, and that appeals to recruits. But I'm much less worried about the color of the car than about how it drives (ie wins) especially in March.

Listen to that podcast and Wes describes what he is looking for. He wants long athletic guards and wings who can press, defend, get into passing lanes to cause deflections (gasp) and turnovers...he said they may take guys who don’t fit that mold but those guys would have to be tough as nails on the inside for that to happen.

Sounds like Bearcat Basketball.

I didn’t intentionally ignore that, I merely forgot how ****** it has been for everybody the last 13 months.

In all seriousness, I was willing to give Brannen a pass on the season. But then the entire freshman class mutinied, he got put on leave, and then the circus came to town. After those optics, there was no way he was going to be an effective coach at UC.

Heck, Brannen may or may not be a good x’s and o’s guy. But he sure sucked balls in the developing relationships dept.

Hope we can find some of those guards/wings because we have maybe one on the roster at this point.

As long as we continue an upward trajectory for the next 3 years, I think that is what is important. Certainly sniffing the tournament in year 2 and in there in year 3 with a top 25 program should be doable and expected at UC.

Somewhere there is a line between being realistic and being complacent.

Funny you mention him...he spoke a little about that 99-00 team and how it was a brand like the Fab 5 when he was watching UC in high school.

Sure, when I think of long athletic guards the first name that comes to mind is Steve Logan

But if there's a guard out there that can shoot like Logan, come on down!

I think you missed the part where he said if they are not long and athletic they’d need to be tough as nails. I think that described Steve Logan fairly well.

RE: What does successful Miller time look like?
The problem is that every coach wants long and athletic guards and wings, so the ones that a program like UC is likely to land are underdeveloped and require tons of coaching (Wilkes, Shaq Thomas, Hardnett.)

Miller will hopefully be living in that #50-#150 recruiting ranking sweet spot. In that range, you get a lot of good players, but a lot of flawed players who have 1 or more deficiency that prevents them from being a HS AA. Not only does he have to coach them up, but he will also have the scheme up a system that covers for their weaknesses.

Why are you so singularly focused on the fact that he was divorced?

BTW, his ex made a couple jokes on twitter but seemed very good natured about everything. Wished him and UC well.
