All of you guys citing a former Power 5 D1 starter athlete in a money sport at a school in the South pulling a hot woman as a recruiting tool clearly weren't college athletes. Man do I have some stories

Probably didn’t hurt that he had generational wealth before he coached as well.
I have a family connection to a former MLB All-Star who did not marry well in the looks department. That being said he has been with her since they were teens and she is a sweet lady. This is the exception to the rule for sure.

RE: Wes Miller
Look, I have watched all of the hand wringing....each snit fit has been debunked methodically.
The program’s reputation is destroyed. Wrong
We won’t be able to get a quality coach to answer our call. Wrong
We won’t be able to afford to pay a quality coach. Wrong.
We can’t afford a buyout. Will also be proven wrong.
Nothing about our former coach will impact this new staff or the team one bit. None of us are paying a dime of a buyout. I do t care what or if they pay him. Not my problem. We jettisoned a so so coach who was a terrible fit and a worse people person. Onward and upwards. This is a great hire. Countdown to liftoff...

Hahah I mentioned it. Obviously won't have anything to do with it, but shows a man's confidence IMO. Just sayin

Yup. We hired the best available coach and his energy & enthusiasm are a great cultural fit.

Is this odd to anyone else? If Williams likes Miller so much, couldn't he have arranged for Miller to get the job in Chapel Hill?

To those who are pissed about the "Brian Kelly" potential...you know what, if a guy does good enough to be wanted by anyone in the country in a few years, so be it, I'd rather have that than someone who has never proven themselves as the first or second chair on a college bench before. Regardless of who the coach is, I said I'd be behind them until they give reason not to be...so I'm a Wes Miller fan now as much as I would've been a fan of any other person who dons the Red and Black.
i'm less worried about the Brian Kelly scenario (which would be conference championships and two BCS bowls which would be roughly elite eights?) and more concerned about the Lyle Jones scenario (he does good enough here that a school from a bigger conference, like VA Tech or South Carolina, take a flyer on him).
i get it. You still have to hire him because you have to fill a vacancy quickly and he's the best, really only decent option, out of a lousy lot. i also realize that i'm putting the cart way ahead of the horse. He should probably win a game as the HC first before i start worrying about him taking flight.

If he was hired last week I would have been super estatic, but despite lack of Head coaching experience, I was super excited for Eric Martin + NVE, plus an experienced bench coach. Another poster said it perfectly on the first page, something about Eric wanting the program to be successful not for himself, but the program. I LOVED that he loves the CATS, and there is a lot to be said about someone WANTING and LOVING the job and University. I sure hope Miller falls in love with our town and University like the rest of us do.
A few other tidbits, not directed at any one person, but how do we know EM did not know X's and O's? Obviously he hasn't proven it yet, and maybe this will push him to go and do just that. Secondly, a lot of talk on another board about analytics. We also don't know if EM or NVE use them or not. Why assume they don't.
if i'm Coach Miller, i don't know if i would want other candidates who had interviewed for the position on my staff, just generally speaking. i also wouldn't want someone that a vocal, perhaps influential, segment of the alumni base championed for the position ahead of me on my staff.
i hope Erik and Nick get their respective chances. Nick is my favorite Bearcat of all time so i don't have an unbiased opinion about him. That said, they'll have to wait their turn. Hopefully, in the meantime they are using it wisely and building their respective resumes so that the next time they interview, they'll have more substantive experience to point to.

Not my favorite hype video, but good enough on short notice. I'm excited to see what the new coach can do. Cant wait to bring the kids down for a weekend game.

Glad the hire has been done and made. Like that he’s hit the ground running with calls with players and getting ex-players in the fold. And now hopefully we can look forward to recruiting and commitments coming in soon. Hope he can persuade MSJ to come back. Really like the kid’s potential and what he showed late season.

Feels like the three guys in the portal will come back. It’s been a month and they haven’t committed anywhere yet. Saunders was supposed to commit yesterday but canceled it.
7 guys on the roster is much more easily fixed than 4.

Agreed. And it makes me wonder if Cunningham was keeping those three in close communication these past few weeks and signaling that there would be a new coach coming, even before Brannen's formal suspension and dismissal.
I have some misgivings about reconstituting the team, but my impression was they were all good kids and whatever happened that catalyzed the events of the past month wasn't on them. At season's end, Madsen in particular seemed to be very proud of playing in a historically great program and wearing the CINCINNATI jersey. This will be an excellent turn of events if these players return and prosper under Miller's leadership.

We, as a blanket fanbase, really love to set ourselves up to be disappointed. Expecting 3 guys to come back after entering the portal, when that happens at literally a fraction of a percentage rate at the moment, is peak Cincinnati fandom...I'll be happy with one, but I'm not expecting any of them.

I wouldn’t be surpised if what you predicted was true... in usual times.
But we are in unprecedented times, and really nobody has any fuxing clue what is going down.
