All the new players might be the reason? Not sure. Disappointed in how the season turned out. We seemed to hit our peak midway through and then get worse. We’ll see how many players hit the portal. Really hope to see Monsanto in an ETSU uniform next season.

Agreed, Fan. Several things reminded me of the Bartow years. My questions:

1. When you're down by a bunch with 4 minutes to go, why do you hold the ball for 30 seconds every time down the court, then heave a prayer before (or after) time expires? Instead of having possibly 8 or 10 possessions, you've limited yourself to 4, meaning you're counting on stopping the other's team offense every time down the floor, and counting on hitting a bucket every time you go down the court.

2. Why are there so many individual players, with no team philosophy? This is what made me a Bartow "hater" the first time I saw him coach. There was no team. It was all individuals.

3. Why are so many people saying ETSU did better than expected this year? Was everyone expecting a 500 season, even with all the cupcakes to start the season?

Maybe I'm missing something. I've been an ETSU fan for a lot of decades now, but other than the Bartow years (which I've tried to erase from memory), I can't remember a team that seemed to lack so many fundamentals.

I'm sure you're speaking of player attrition, but I'll be curious as to how many FANS don't return. The interest in the past 3-4 years was the best it had been since the Les Robinson/Alan Leforce hey-day. I think most fans were willing to be patient with the disappointing performance this season, but the anthem issue pushed a lot of people away. The question will be whether the anger/frustration/disappointment will subside before next season begins.
In many ways, this season's limited attendance policy was probably a good thing for ETSU because it masked any potential fan dissatisfaction.

I just long for the time when our area catches up with the rest of the world.
I've heard this said, but not sure I understand it. Based on TV viewership of sports in the past few years, I can't help but think that the plummeting viewership is related to the fact that many fans turn to sports for entertainment. However, the increasing political messages are a turn-off to many sports fans. It doesn't make them wrong, it's simply the fact that many see sports as a chance to get away from the daily grind for a couple of hours.
Agree. Its okay when the ladies down the road in Knoxville do the same damn thing but when the men at ETSU do it eveyone loses their ****. It makes the whole area look backwards. Where is the outrage for UT?
Honestly, I think there is no outrage because there is far less interest in the Lady Vols in Johnson City than there is in the men Bucs. (I'm assuming you're referring to the Lady Vols, since I haven't heard that the men Vols were doing this.)

On a side note, I've never heard if the UTC players were kneeling when our players were. Does anyone on here know?

I suspect some here didn't see it, but during yesterday's (Saturday's) game, there was a 'commercial'/PSA with the men's basketball team (and maybe included some women, too??). They were all in uniform, in a formation, and there were very quick cuts of many of them saying "my father", or "my sister", or "my brother", etc. Also, 3(?) of them read very short statements to the effect that most of their families have people who have served in the military, and thus they were NOT being somehow anti-military or anti-flag. It may be available online, but I'm not gonna go search for it. But they did a good job.

I've said it before, most of the posters on this board have no idea what the lives of black players or their families are like. What kind of racism they have faced. What kind of service to this country they have done.

In a country where a right wing mob sacks our Capitol to overturn an election, egged on by a grinning President, it amazes me that people try to make an issue out of the simple act of kneeling.

The video was produced by WCYB and they and the players did a good job. I support them totally.

Coach Shay was ask on post game show how he thought this season had gone with him 1st year coach etc. Didn't say much but did comment that couple of players had at home issues which had to be dealt with. I Suppose the kneeling was in regard to these issues. Just a guess.

Oops, my millennial just came out. The Johnson City/Northeast TN community embarrassed itself with the uproar over kneeling. We have nothing better to worry about, and it shows. Gosh, let’s hire CSX to run flag painted trains—filled with coal and ammunition—right through the region day and night blasting the national anthem with the caboose done up in the Lord’s prayer. By God, that’ll learn em, them ungrateful boys. Northeast TN: No. 1 in God, Guns, and No Kneeling!

Lemme tell ya how I really feel: good riddance to the “boomer” and “Karen” donors who dropped off. The times, they are a changing.

01-ncaabbs You’re so right. Nothing better to worry about. Nothing going on. Small time thinking. Never been far from ‘lil ole East Tennessee. Can’t stand the thought of them liberals bringing their ideas into God’s own perfect place. Any objective thinker can look around and see the rest of the state is growing by leaps and bounds while East Tennessee continues to lose industry and subsist on call center work and fast food wages. This area was stagnant at best before covid19. The folks moving in are just coming to exploit the taxes and low cost of living. ETSU is pretty much THE only hope of moving this area out of the 1950’s.

I am so glad that other people feel exactly the way I do right now. Very proud of my school and players. I have to ask what WOULD this region be like without ETSU? Not a good place at all. Go Bucs and go ETSU!

Unlimited data buddy, family plan. I used my ETSU degree to get out of JC and get PAID. You used your 3 posts to very effectively make a clown of yourself.
