RE: 2021 BASEBALL
Football really has 11 on offense, 11 on defense, 11 on kickoff returns, 11 on kickoffs, 11 on punt returns, 11 on punts, 11 on field goals, 11 on field goal defense. There is some crossover but it's not as much as people assume. You are also rotating in at least 2 deep on defense and 2-3 deep at WR, TE, and RB.

There are over 100 players on a college football team.

Additionally, football is where the money is and that is all that matters. You arent taking away football scholarships to give to baseball, which has a couple hundred spectators and bleeds money.

I understand all of the above, although I believe there is a good bit of crossover.
I'm also not saying take away from football to give baseball. I'm saying take away from football and you don't have to make up so many women's scholarships for title IX.

Also, I'm onboard with football being the $ maker and as I stated its the only program that I really follow, but the delta in scholarships is huge. (then again so is the delta in revenue football generates)

I don't understand this comment. Wrestling's 9.9 and couldn't even fully stock a starting lineup (10 athletes). Wrestling is one of the sports where you don't have the flexibility to move athletes around as much. Baseball, you can move outfielders around, you can put players in different positions - in wrestling, you're not making the 174-pounder a 133-pounder if someone gets hurt.

Baseball's 11.7 is absurd, but I'm not following the "want to know why wrestling was cut" line as it relates to yet another men's sport the NCAA scholarship limits won't allow an entire starting squad to have a full scholarship.
My point is that there are two factors: scholarship balance (Title IX) and program cost. Adding more women's sports would cost a lot of money (think softball complex). So it came down to cutting a mens program. I'm guessing it came down to baseball, swimming and diving, and wrestling. S/D was probably saved because we already have a womens team and there is no added cost to maintain the pool for the men. So it was either baseball or wrestling. They probably wanted to keep a spring sport even though maintaining the baseball facility is more costly than maintaining wrestling facilities.

Trust me, I'm not happy losing any sport, but difficult decisions had to be made and I'm just drilling down on some of the factors in that process.

Admin drilled it into the ground and couldn’t be forward thinking. Could have added emerging sport (women’s wrestling, approved during Covid) at a minimal cost - same coaches, same facilities, smaller travel footprint. ODU could have again been a leader in women’s sports, but that would be forward thinking. Wood took the soft way out - like always.

Gregory taken by the Blue Jays in the 8th, slot value for the pick is $170,300. As a Junior he does have some leverage

Aaron Holiday just went to the Oakland A's in the 13th round. Like Gregory he has leverage as a junior with eligibility remaining. It'll be interesting to see what they offer and if he can get six figures to sign.

Yeah. I'm selfishly hoping our Juniors return.

Yes, we want as many returning as possible for purely selfish reasons.

Bummed Kyle Battle didn't get the call. Hopefully he signs on with an org as an undrafted free agent or latches on in Indy ball ASAP to get some looks.

I expect Battle and Tommy Bell to get scooped up quickly on the free agent market. The big question mark is Garriola. Does he come back or does he sign? Free agency isn’t ideal now for underclassmen so I assume he comes back but you never know until they do.

It really doesn't make a ton of sense for Bell and Garriola to sign as UDFA. Not if they believe in themselves.

Even Holiday should probably come back. I think he could dominate next year if he gets his control in order.

And Moore should too. But I won’t count on any coming back until we know for sure.

Yeah, I forgot about him. That would be a major coup for us to have him back. Plus we have a couple waiting in the wings to announce once the draft gets settled.

I have a feeling the mistake Garriola made during the Summer of 2019 is part of the reason he wasn’t drafted.

Hopefully he has a chance to prove that it was a mistake.

I'm thinking it was his performance in Columbia.
