RE: 2021 BASEBALL
Considering how much shade is/was thrown at Wilder and Jones for lackluster recruiting, Finwood should be roundly applauded. With less than ideal facilities, he has found a way to bring in high level D1 talent to ODU. We're lucky to have him.
On top of everything else, he seems to be a 100% class act.

RE: 2021 BASEBALL
So Garriola and Holiday are playing in the Cape Cod League.
Trice is on the US Collegiate National Team
I see that Levari and Trice are listed at "inactive" on the Charlottesville Tom Sox team of the Valley League. No other players listed on the other Valley League rosters.
Anyone know where any others are playing? Would be great to attend a game to watch them.

Our season went too long for any of the guys to play in the CPL this year. But if you want to watch some college-level talent play ball, go check out a Peninsula Pilots game. Former ODU and current UConn OF Erik Stock is playing for them. Some good ball is being played there.

Some more information on the feasibility study. It's good to see WAVY staying on top of this.

RE: 2021 BASEBALL
I had no idea our baseball program didn’t offer full scholarships to the whole team. This doesn’t seem fair. I know we raised the funds for our basketball team to be fully self sustaining many years ago. Why can’t we do the same for the baseball team? I realize, 14 verses 40, but why can’t we chip away at it? Anyone have any answers?

It’s not an ODU thing. NCAA limits baseball to 11.7 scholarships that can divided up to 27 players.

Well, doesn’t that suck? Do you know why that is? Why does football allowed so many more?
Thanks!

Did you mean to answer your own question? Football having 85 full rides is why baseball (and other men’s sports sans basketball) are equivalency sports.

And only 9.9 scholarships for mens soccer.

RE: 2021 BASEBALL
I understand these teams don't have full rosters worth of scholarships, but why is there weird portions of a scholarship? Baseball 11.7, soccer 9.9. Good Lord NCAA, how about we stick with full scholarships (12 and 10) that can still be divided up by the teams.

I don't know what the actual formula is that came up with these numbers for each sport, but I am sure there is a formula in order to treat each sport equally. Of course, women's sports are using some other formula to make up ground for the imbalance that football creates.
Here is a clear list of scholarship limits for each team.
https://scholarshipstats.com/ncaalimits
If you want to know why we chose rowing and volleyball to balance the scholarships because of football, the numbers tell why (along with the operating costs of those sports). Also, if you want to know why wrestling was cut, note the number of scholarships. I'm guessing the limit formula is based on the number of team members that must receive a minimum amount, but I'm sure there are other factors as well.

I don't understand this comment. Wrestling's 9.9 and couldn't even fully stock a starting lineup (10 athletes). Wrestling is one of the sports where you don't have the flexibility to move athletes around as much. Baseball, you can move outfielders around, you can put players in different positions - in wrestling, you're not making the 174-pounder a 133-pounder if someone gets hurt.
Baseball's 11.7 is absurd, but I'm not following the "want to know why wrestling was cut" line as it relates to yet another men's sport the NCAA scholarship limits won't allow an entire starting squad to have a full scholarship.

RE: 2021 BASEBALL
Thanks for the link, now football seems so out of balance (which it is).
Football - 85 (I'd say 25 first team players 11 offense, 11 defense, and 3 specialist) so that is 3.4X the number of starters - of course I understand two deep, etc.)
Men's BB - 13 (2.6X the number of starters)
Baseball - 11.7 (so 1 starting line up and 2.7 pitchers)
I'd say to help with title IX, Football scholarships should be reduced by the NCAA, but we know that won't happen. However, even if they were reduced to the same as FCS you'd have plenty to field a team, but not so many to have doing nothing (i.e. redshirts)
Disclaimer: I'm an avid college football fan and only really follow football at ODU.
