Well, it looked great to start, but the ball movement fell off and had some defensive lapses...down by 13 now. Going to be a tough climb to claw our way back into this game...

This is a different team when Amadi can stay on the court. No toughness without him.

Amadi is the only player that will mix it up. Jacobs has the size but looks and plays soft, Mensah does not get minutes against D3 teams. Everybody else is a guard.

As soon as Armadi gets a third foul we start monitoring the situation.

Got down by 20, so the Huskies basically cleared their bench...who fell apart with full court press, but it was far too late for that to matter. Dukes lose by 9.

Tomorrow the Dukes need to stick to playing hard defense and passing the ball. During the giant dry spells I don't think we passed the ball at all, whoever got the ball after it crossed midcourt was the one that shot it. There's absolutely no reason with the depth that JMU has this year to not give it 100% the whole game.

The second half was pretty bad. The huskies had 2 guys get double doubles against a soft under belly for the dukes. The Canadian Freshman was pretty impressive coming off the bench.

JMU needs to get a split tomorrow, but won’t do so if they can’t play more physical. Northeastern came into the game as the worst rebounding team in the CAA and they made JMU look weak.

Yup- we looked like a team of all guards.

Our offensive scheme might as well be to leave four players in the back court while the lucky one who gets to bring it across the timeline either drives to the hoop and travels, drives to the hoop and gets it blocked, drives to the hoop and loses the ball off a spin move, or chucks up a brick from 3. Disturbingly low IQ basketball. We show flashes of coaching when we move without the ball, set screens, or drive and look for the open man, but they are too few and far between. Hero basketball rarely works. When you're down by eight or ten with under 10:00 remaining, you have to know what a good shot looks like, but these kids more often than not revert to their one-on-one instincts. The staff knows it, let's see what adjustments they make for tomorrow's contest.

Not to make excuses but that was a team who’s played 8 conference games vs a team who’s played 1.

I’m excited to see how we rebound tomorrow.

Dukester posted this on another thread but I agree this is the first time in about 12 years i’ve been more excited to watch our MBB than the WBB...still interested in the women but things are trending up.

Prediction - Vado and Matt light them up tomorrow

Can't win when you shoot that poorly, can't rebound and don't capitalize at the line

5 for 13 at the FT line is killer, unacceptable. 38.5% FG and 38.5% FT? Morse couldn't hit a shot all day. I give them credit for fighting back, hopefully better all around shooting tomorrow.

A team of guards that can't shoot free throws03-drunk

Are HS players too busy recording dunking and shooting 3 pointers from four feet behind thr NBA line to practice a free throw?

yes I am jealous I could not dunk...but I could and stil can make free throws

NU was just flat out better. #11 killed us in the second half. He got hot and scored 11 points in a row. Just a bad shooting day all around for the Dukes. NU is 7-0 in league play for a reason.

I watched the Tribe and Drexel play today. Those are two beatable teams. I also watched Towson and Hofstra. Very physical game. The one thing missing from our line up is physicality. We also don’t have a legit big man. Jacobs is trying but he just doesn’t have a bigs instincts. Amadi paired with a legit post player would be a deadly combo.

I think we lose again tomorrow. This team seems over matched against NU but I do like that they never gave up today.

Hodge was starting to show he could score recently and today was his coming out party . Confident game without forcing . I think that was a pretty good surprise. I think the team in general , despite the lapse in the second half , is trending up . As stated before , Northeastern is just better than us right now, especially with their game experience this season . I wouldn’t be surprised if Vegas has us within a few digits come tournamnent time . Hoping anyways

I’m not as quick to crown northeastern the best team. They lost their 3 best players plus 2 additional transfers from last year’s roster. They were picked 7th in the CAA. A Freshman was their best player on offense today and can easily be a bust tomorrow.

They do have the best coach in the league which matters more than anything else. We’ll see what coach By brings to the table tomorrow. In the postgame he talked of making adjustments but didn’t elaborate. We’ll see in 12 hours.

I have not been impressed with JMU’s coaching yet. Maybe we get a glimpse of something in the rematch.

I think these back to back games will tell us a lot about coaching skills.

I wonder why they have made that decision.

Did not track the game yesterday but later found some bits on twitter and wondered what gym they were playing in, that surely that wasn't their usual arena.

The announcers talked about how hot it was in the arena. That is a big change from Matthews.

Speaking of the announcers. I thought they did a good job of commentary. They actually did some homework on the JMU players and knew some background on where certain players played there high school ball and such. They were also far more objective than most. They did a nice job during the broadcast.

It will be interesting to see if coach By goes with more ball pressure. Full court, half court etc. the Dukes were turning over NE at a high rate in the first half yesterday.
If you saw their team, they only have one guy who is strong with the ball. Maybe trap their PG and watch the rest of the team turn it over. Of course, that will leave some open 3’s where NE is a good shooting team across every position.

JMU has numbers of players and plenty of athleticism. Let’s see if that translates to defense today.

We are 8-13 on 3 pointers today. Up 40-17 with 2 minutes left 1st half. We look very sharp and smooth right now.
