Kind of off-topic, but similar, Philip Rivers has been named head coach of St Michael Catholic High School in Fairhope. I had never heard of the school and had to look it up, it only began in 2016. Reading about the school, they have taken a very Hogwarts direction with the school being divided into 4 “houses” each named after early Bishops in Mobile. And as per the books, the house will compete for the “House Cup” each year.....

So that’s interesting...

Hudspeth resigned from Austin Peay for swinging with a players mom. It was consensual between all parties involved. That relationship ended sourly when Hudspeth cut the PWO player. His mother went to the administration and Hud was forced to resign.

What happened in Lafayette was different than what happened a Austin Peay. Political stances and alienating a large majority of his donor base, while not enforcing standards equally for players did him in at UL.

I just assumed it was his record that got him fired. Once he could not cheat he was average at best

Seems like more than a conflict of interest there. Not a good look when his recruiting trips are possible trips for not only recruiting players but also their mothers.

We've definitely seen some remarkable falls from grace, but overall, I get the sense that coaches probably fit right in the usual bell curve of being human. I think we tend to remember the ridiculous situations and sometimes focus on the really successful coaches that seem to have zero skeletons, but we don't think about the fact that most coaches out there are just regular folks, trying but flawed.

Ronnie Royal transferring to Gulf Shores High. If you don’t know him you soon will.

For those wanting to know how Coach Smedium has been doing. He’s currently 2-0 at Gulf Shores.

Here’s the clip from last nights game.

Gulf Shores 31, Brookwood 0

Ronnie Royal III scored on runs of 39 and 27 yards as the Dolphins improved to 2-0 in the Mark Hudspeth tenure.

RJ Taylor had touchdown receptions of 51 and 43 yards.

Gulf Shores forced four turnovers and the offense scored on each. The Dolphins held Brookwood to 91 total yards.

Gulf Shores travels to No. 1 Spanish Fort next week to open 6A, Region 1 play.


Gem may have known something before all of us, calling out Royal back in January. Next week gets a lot harder for them.

Feel like Hudson made the move to HS because he’s getting older but the HS school moms stay the same age.
