RE: So, Appalachian State fans....
I had no issues with Peterson's play calling. It's easy to blame the OC for a lack of production, but how many weapons can you take away and still be productive? Peterson didn't have the luxury of the personnel Satterfield or Drinkwitz had at their disposal. Do ya think Tony's play calling might have been a tad more inventive with Evan's 3000 yards rushing, 300 yds receiving and 34 TD's; Sutton's 1375 yards & 17 TD's and the best blocking TE on the field? Could it possibly be the play selection may have been influenced during the year with his best route runner, 50-50 ball receiver and tough catch guy; fastest WR and top deep threat; top returning RB lost for season in 5th game and co-starter injured in opening game, who never fully recovers and lost completely for several games. Why we're at it take away his returning TE halfway into 1st game for the next 3 and is never fully 100% the remainder of the season. Toss in the whole Covid thing and being shut down three weeks in the middle of the season and it's ridiculous to even attempt to compare this year with the past 2 or 3.

It's easy to ignore the fact that App was banged up most of the year. But ignoring the fact that historically TP has a trend of offensive decline under his leadership would be also a lazy Armchair QB situation

I totally understand and agree with what you are saying, I just wonder why ZT looked so lost on many plays, why a senior laden team even without some of its weapons seem to struggle some times. Why it looked like we made no offensive adjustments at halftime. These are the questions many people have in regards to Tony regardless of the personnel we had at our disposal.

My thinking aligns with DG here as well. Our offense from the Satt days has always been very run heavy. But as I think back, how many situations have we been in over the past 5 years where we needed to make halftime adjustments and did? We have always relied on our run game to hold leads and win the game by the time 4th quarter hit. I remember fans complaining because the offense would become to complacent late in games and allow teams to "stay in it" score wise. But our run game would always take over and finish off games. Difference is we were able (other than 2017 I think) to stretch the field and keep teams from stacking the box to stop the run. Not once this year did it seem we could stretch the field deep with pass. Who is to blame for that? IDK
For your other question, I have no clue why it seemed ZT regressed. Is it 3 QB coaches in 3 years? Seems logical. Would it be the targets you are comfortable with opt out or are hurt? Could be. Could it be something personal he's going through this year? possibly, it is 2020. Or maybe it's the OC's fault? That's easy to fall back on. But whatever the reason's are, I personally feel like this was the difference in a 2019 season and the 2020 season we had. Can't put the blame at TP's feet, not fully at least.

on more than a few occasions it looked as if Rob Best had returned as our OC

I'd wager if we went back and studied the play by play of each game it would show TP threw the ball more on 1st down than Satterfield did and close to Drinkwitz's number.

I would say TP xeroxed Drink's playbook for the most part in the opening half of season.

Agree. Reality is the OC calls the plays, but the HC is intimately involved not only in what's going on during the game, but putting together the game plan.
