Yep, several of our fellow posters were doubting mergers earlier this summer but it’s time to recognize the glimpses of the future of the higher education model which is growing in the Hampton Roads region.

Yep, several of our fellow posters were doubting mergers earlier this summer but it’s time to recognize the glimpses of the future of the higher education model which is growing in the Hampton Roads region.

This joint school of public health is exactly what your fellow posters said it was earlier in the summer.

I know that change is hard for some, more so than for others. It may take awhile but in time you’ll see it come to fruition.

So let me make sure I understand. there is a thought that NSU and ODU will merge? I can see a ODU and EVMS merger before the ODU and NSU merger occurring.

At this moment, I agree. The ODU/NSU merger seemed more likely when NSU lost its accreditation. Now they are back on decent footing. And theres no way the state is shutting down an HBCU. And the missions of the schools are different as well. I guess its possible you could see all three schools merge into one. But what would happen to the NSU campus? The smarter move is to have ODU put more separation between itself and NSU to become more selective and rigorous, while letting NSU continue its noble mission of educational access for all. Are they talking about having VCU and VSU merge too?

I don't really see the need or value of ODU and NSU merging, other than ODU officially getting a stop on the Tide I guess. Two different schools with two different missions.

Thanks for the link. Very informative. I also noticed the inclusion of an update on the beginning of the NSU/ODU merger beginning with the joint Health Care initiative. Exciting times.

It’s interesting that the school is contracting for what seems to me to be Norfolk Public Works projects. The article says the city was consulted but I wonder how much more of a role they have in this. The article does not mention who would be responsible for maintenance.

More than likely the city said we can't do this if you want it done do it yourself.

Power lines are maintained by Dominion Power not the city. As for landscaping, the city would have done the work but ODU has more control of what is planted by doing it themselves.

Be careful what you wish for, there have been problems in that area, do we want it "on ODU campus" or "Near ODU"

Any idea what those are? When i was a student living off campus the area between colley and killam from 40 to 49th is always a security concern. Two of my friends were mugged at gun point. But we never faced any issues between Hampton and Monarch way even during nights on our way to La Herradura.

Kind of an ugly building and it doesn't match anything. Guess anything is better than nothing. Would have preferred to see more earth tones rather than all that white.
