I saw Maya at the fotball game and she said her legs are in good shape and all healed and ready to go.

RE: [split] Women's Basketball Recruiting Thread 2021
Not much recruiting news recently, it seems. But an update on Aniah Alexis, one of the 2024 signees. She's averaging a pretty ridiculous 31.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 3.9 steals on shooting splits of 62/57/80. Her team isn't great but she plays in 6A so the competition should at least be decent (although that doesn't seem to be the case looking at some of her highlights).

My observation for the past several years is that girls basketball in Houston has suffered a ton in recent years, mostly at the hands of volleyball. A ton of the best girls athletes in the Houston area have chosen to concentrate on volleyball over basketball.
Outside of Cy Creek, there really haven’t been any good prep teams in Houston in some time. For whatever the reason, it doesn’t seem to be as big of an issue in the rest of the state - just Houston.
That said, it does sound like Alexis is going to be a big impact player next year. She might have been at the game last night with her mom. At first, I thought it might have been one of Trinity Gooden’s younger sisters. But I think it was Alexis instead. The recruit we signed from Oklahoma is also doing well - she is that state’s number two recruit according to one service I read.
That’s good news because after really solid recruiting classes for our current juniors and sophomores, we haven’t seen anything at all from our current freshmen. But we have a very good class so far with the 2024 signees.

We offered Sania Richardson, a top 60:national recruit (class of 2025) also out of Oklahoma. Plays for the top summer club team (Cy Fair Elite). 5-6 guard. Will have to beat out a lot of tough programs for her but it’s nice we are shooting for the elite players.

Seems like the women's team has a new commitment, though not sure who yet.

Interesting. Tonight is the portal deadline so if we are losing a player, we should know soon who it is.
Good pick-up. I’m really excited about this team’s chances for 2024-25. If the freshmen are as good as advertised, we may have our best team ever.

We recruited Flores heavily when she was in high school. Very solid addition.

Maybe she is pissed TCU is bringing in Hailey Van Lith’s from LSU. (04-30-2024 07:07 PM)dragon2owl Wrote: (04-29-2024 06:33 PM)elw4796 Wrote: Seems like the women's team has a new commitment, though not sure who yet.

Maybe so. If that is indeed the reason, then we truly benefitted from the transfer portal.

RE: [split] Women's Basketball Recruiting Thread 2021
The TCU coach had some odd coaching decisions in terms of minutes played during the season (even before the team had a rash of injuries). Playing starters 40 and 38 minutes for instance in a 37-point blowout over Army.
Flores had three minutes in her first two Big 12 games, but then averaged about 25 minutes a game over the next nine games when they needed her because they had like only six healthy scholarship players? But then she didn’t get to play in the last seven games when they got some players back from injury. Things like that drive a player crazy.
They brought in three guards from the portal (Van Lith and two others). It doesn’t surprise me one bit Flores would want to transfer.

Thanks for the information. No, not surprising at all that she wanted to transfer. Glad she chose us!

RE: [split] Women's Basketball Recruiting Thread 2021
This supports my theory that mid-majors should be building relationship with high school recruits who might be out of their league but might at some point want to transfer down a level. Realistically, Rice isn't going to land many top-100 ranked players. But we went after Flores super aggressively. She picked the high-major, but the relationship from recruiting her in high school was still there. No reason to stop recruiting the high school level. Might bear fruit down the road.

She was a four star recruit out of high school. She has something to prove and we definately needed a guard.
