Luckily the wife loves Marco, though she is used to JW so it is going to cost me arm and a leg.

Just spent 4 nights at the JW - the new 21+ “Sirene” package is the real deal.

Thought it was during TG. It's actually the half week in front of TG.

RE: Future MBB Schedule (2020+)
Looks like with UPenn announcing their schedule today that JMU will visit them on December 28th. Coach By spoke of getting some new series started with games at home next year since the OOC is pretty heavy the other way this season so I’d expect a return game in Harrisonburg next season. Pretty cool that the Dukes will play at the Palestra.

Good exposure to the Philly market and a quality OOC game in an iconic arena. Palestra is about 5 blocks from the train station for anyone who wants to visit Philly and catch the game.

coach indicated there is only one game left that hasn't been signed for this season. As soon as the ink is dry he will release the full OOC schedule.

Hoping for another good OOC game- maybe a road game at someone from the A10 or one of the better teams from the MAAC, NEC etc

Played there about 10 years ago as well. Tony Kukoc's son was on the Penn team.

RE: Future MBB Schedule (2020+)
That Thanksgiving week tourney is in Naples on the gulf coast and less than 2 hours drive to Boca Raton on the East Coast. I imagine they will stay in Florida, enjoy turkey day and some beach days, then play Florida Atlantic before heading home. 4 road games in 7 days and zero missed class time.
Seems like a nice working vacation for the coaches and team

Dukes schedule officially announced. Two that weren’t on my radar at a road game early at Eastern Kentucky and a road game later in the OOC at Morgan State.

RE: Future MBB Schedule (2020+)
It’s a B schedule IMO. Obviously like the home games vs Odu and Mason and the UVA game in the new arena is the real prize. Also like the mid major tourney in Florida. I think with some wins from that grouping JMU could have a solid Net rating/Rpi etc going into conference season. Would have like to see a better road individual game though similar to what they had lined up last season.

RE: Future MBB Schedule (2020+)
Playing UVA at home - outstanding. Should be a sellout, but the masks may ruin the experience.
ODU and Mason old CAA rivals at home. Very good.
Mid major thanksgiving tourney in Florida. Very good
Road game at Penn. good.
Only 4 of 13 games at home against D-1 schools. Fail. What did we build the AUBC for?
DIII games. Dumb. Worthless to the players, the program, and the ticket holders.
The game against UVA is the biggest home game since 2014 when UVA came to town and the convo was sold out for the last time. Would be nice to see coach By have some gonads and play some power teams on the road. Those games are readily available and pay about $100k guarantee.
If you compare the ladies schedule with the men, it is head and shoulders above the men.
Maryland, UVA, West Virginia, Villanova at home and North Carolina on the road.
Also at Mason, at Liberty, at George Washington.
No silly DIII games.
Can you imagine if the men had that type of OOC schedule?
Hats off the O’regan. Coach By needs to take some notes maybe even piggyback with combo scheduling I.e. ladies willing to play at Maryland if the men’s team comes to play at JMU.

I still think it’s easier for JMU women to schedule then the men- as the men win more and are a more reliable opponent from a strength of schedule perspective I think you’ll see the two be more similar.

Hart, I don't think anyone will disagree with you, but we must face the fact that our girls have been good for almost two decades and have worked their way into this position. By is completely starting over and to put our guys up against strong programs every game for 11, 12, or 13 straight games could lead to a disaster. I hate playing DIII games and believe we can approach Longwood, VMI, Hampton, NSU types to accomplish the same thing and actually have the games mean something. I hope we do well this season and can see a jump in quality competition.

RE: Future MBB Schedule (2020+)
Per Mettlen (who does very good reporting on our basketball teams), we should have had Fordham on the home docket but they elected to chicken out. We couldn't get another team to come visit us that worked in the schedule. So now we are stuck with two D3 program on the schedule. If we were to play a D3, I would prefer it be a local one to drive community engagement, like we do with EMU, not some random school that I have to look up online.
Until ESPN or Fox Sports brings back the bracket buster mid-February tournament, giving us a guaranteed quality OOC game, we are going to get stuck playing these games. Otherwise, we'll always have D2 and D3 programs on our schedule. It's the way of things now. Put it on the list of things we don't like about NCAA basketball like 1000 transfers a year, the one and done rule, and teams with a losing conference record making the NCAA Tournament.

Yep, no doubt the lady Dukes are seen as a quality opponent that helps the power rating for prominent programs while the men are seen as a drain to the NET rating. The willingness to play in Harrisonburg has to come with some reward for the power team.
However, road games against power schools are always available. You can certainly go overboard like Coppin state and play all 13 OOC games on the road to fund your athletic department, but to have zero speaks volumes about avoiding the best teams.
UVA is a great get at home and what the program planned for to open the new arena. There is no reason JMU couldn’t also play on the road at ACC, SEC, Big East, Big 10 schools every year. Pick a number for what you think is balanced. Play 1,2,3 on the road every year and put a little cash in the coffers while doing so.
Scrap the Alice Lloyd home “game” and go test your team. That is the only way to get better.
What we know - power programs play very few road games(if any) in the OOC. They are begging for opponents to come play them every year so they can generate revenue of $500k to $1MM per game.
CoC is usually pretty good at getting a couple of power teams each year on their schedule.
