Game Week: TOL
It's been raining and raining here in D.C., turned cold in the Midwest...Football season is 1/3 completed - all of that since the election.

What I'm most excited (besides that after 2 1/2" of rain here and will end this afternoon) is our offensive weapons and depth.

The big thing is that C.C. can always look down the bench and find an offensive player to play TE, WR, RB, etc.

If we can get everyone on the field we can be a very, very versatile team. Couple thoughts:

1). Still figuring out how to make WRs out of Grissom and Jackson.

2). Evans is kind of a wild card. He is a good short yardage man, won't break a 50 yarder. Was a fmr. H.S. QB, option I believe. Counting other positions and QB, we probably have what 6 - 8 players who could be a D-II QBs.

3). We need our WRs healthy to stretch the field.

4). That said, the offense has been pretty much as expected. If someone said, Hutch would be a very efficient QB, the OL would be good, we are very deep at RB and TE, etc. no one would have been surprised. So far we've seen Boone, Smith, Evans, Bess, etc. at RB. None of them played last year (I believe Boone was a redshirt; the rest not on the team). P.S. Bess might be a star before he is done.

5). As I mentioned in the BSU game thread, I believe Hutch has this season + 2 more, if he wants them. He was to be a junior eligibility wise and as this year is a 'free pass', he'll still have two more. Have no idea what his academic plans are. Like Howie, if he wants he can hang around Ypsi until he has completed his masters. P.S. Hutch has got to learn to protect his body running. Took 6 games worth of hits last night.

And, last, but not least, EMU still hasn't forgotten how to lose close games in the last minute. Need a nick name for C.C.'s team.

Unfortunately our defense has been as spotty as expected.

You're right on there.

BTW, I forgot, Ryland hit the upright on a long FB try. Banging it off the uprights.

Ryland know how to bang it off the uprights...

Next year should be down right crazy in the backfield. I assume Mackey will be back.

Carter Evans could be very interesting. I believe he is listed as a TE, but can also be a power back, esp. for short yardage plays. He has the most power of any of our RBs.

BTW, I think Carter Evans will be the most interesting of the 2021 newcomers.

He can play TE, RB, DE, LB, etc.

One thing I'd like to see to open up the short yardage offense:

Run more 2 TE sets with Evans in the slot (off the line). If there is a 3rd and short, bring Hutch under center and put Carter Evans behind him for a quick hitter between the tackles.

RE: Game Week: TOL
Everything everyone has said is spot on with regarding this team so far! I knew the defense would really struggle, but without those few turnovers in the 1st half, Ball St would've realistically scored more points! CC needs to focus big time on recruiting LB, and CB! Huntley looked like Dalvin Cook against us! 2-4 is the ceiling for this group unfortunately! Are schedule only gets much more difficult! CC has brought us to respectability, but I can't see us climbing the mountain! CMU is getting much better, WMU is always solid, and Toledo recruiting is always top notch! .500 is what we should consider successful! I'm not being negative, but unfortunately after 7 years, it's the truth!

Once again stupid penalties played a part the sidelines call Kent St and Shine last night.
In both games our defensive line is being consistently blown off the other teams ball running backs are having a field day.

we've got those h-back hybrid FB / TE / HB types and i love it. the offense really has some juice and its only a matter of time before those former QBs start unleashing some double passes.

Some interesting notes from this weeks depth chart (and yes I know depth charts don't mean much this year):

-Drummond listed as a starter (which he has been all year but of course we haven't seen him)
-Grissom now listed as the backup QB
-Evans now listed as the starting RB. The order goes Evans/Smith/Bess/Boone (might mean Boone is still banged up)
-McGee and Vaden are listed as starters, hopefully that means they are okay
-Bogan listed as backup

I agree.

In the case of Boone, whenever a starter is listed 3rd or 4th, it means injured with indeterminate status.

Yes, I was thinking it probably means he'll be healthy enough to play but probably only in an emergency situation. Which given how Evans and Bess looked this week, might as well take your time with Boone.

It's also odd they continue to list Drummond as a starter, it leads me to think his "injury" is most likely COVID related.

Has anyone noticed if CJ Parks has even been at/dressed for the first two games?

Going a little O/T here but 2020 has not been kind to EMU, UofM, and MSU and yes, the Lions, too.

How about looking at HInes or Carter? So far the DB haven't looked too good.

BTW, one point about Covid. Players who miss games can be because of SEVERAL different aspects of Covid, such as infected, quarantine, etc.

It is very possible that we have players who can't play for the simple reason they may have spent an hour with a family member who later tested positive.

The AMAZING thing is that we haven't had any announced cases while most programs have had some. Some even double digit numbers.

My guess is that we've probably had a few cases but getting info out of the Convo/SAPC is more difficult than getting it out of Langley (CIA).
