CCU is not going to turn down a resume building opponent.

I agree. That game would go A LONG WAY with the CFP Committee in deciding who would be worthy of the NY6 invite between a potentially undefeated Cincinnati, Coastal Carolina, and Marshall.

Coastal is not passing an undefeated Cincinnati.

This is true, but it is not a given that they will beat App State. If they do Coastal would prefer to play Liberty than Troy (to improve Coastal's resume).

Normally, the conference would prefer conference games over OOC games, but with Coastal and Liberty it would be in the conferences best interest to have a high ranking Sun Belt team in the media as a G5 top 3.

It really boils down to the App State / Coastal game next week. If App State wins App will quickly become the talk of the league. If Coastal wins - the conference would likely schedule Liberty and not Troy for Coastal.

I don’t think the conference has the authority to tell us what we are going to do.

If our administration decides it’s in our best interest to play liberty instead of Troy, then that is what we will do. Conference head office desires be damned.

We will do what’s best for Coastal.

Ask Nebraska how that went...

We will do as the Conference decides. Period. But, I agree with all above that given the right outcomes next week, there’d likely be provisions made.

I think you are correct - though in general it would be better to have agreement with the 'conference' that you are going to reschedule an out of conference instead of a conference school. I mean, it could make a big difference in the East champions selection for the conference title game. You are deciding to not play a division opponent.

Like I said, if you beat App State you will most likely be the division winner - with or without playing Troy. It just gets messy when you 'skip' a division opponent to play a non division opponent (one that isn't even in the same conference no less).

The year is all kinds of screwed up - so it probably doesn't matter anyway.

My point is Coastal should consider they still have to beat App State, then go to the conference championship game - and win that to even worry about what the final ranking is.

The conference has zero recourse in a situation like this.

What are they going to do? Try and fine us if we play the Liberty game instead? How do you think that will play out in public when we site COVID related scheduling issues and the conference is trying to punish us?

Like I said, we will make the call. Even if it is us telling the conference office what we are going to do and letting them announce it.

We don’t have an obligation to cancel a game we are under contract to play so we can make up a game that we didn’t call off to begin with.

Don’t misunderstand me. I’m very concerned about the App game. We’ve never beaten you guys and I’m not assuming anything at all. It’s going to be hard to beat App state. Period. End of story.

All I’m saying is that whatever the outcome of our game with App, our administration is going to sit down and decide what we do about Liberty or Troy. And we will make that decision based on what’s best for us, period.

Any suggestion that the Sun Belt is going to somehow tell us what contracts we are going to breach or pay to break so we can make up a game that we didn’t make the call to postpone is crazy talk.

Yes, you have obligation when the conference was the one to allow you to schedule those weeks after declaring them needed for make up dates. I can guarantee you they were provisions mandated by the conference written into those contracts allowing for the cancellation due to conference needs.

And yes, the conference has plenty of recourse. Hence every mention you see, especially the ones coming out of Coastal themselves, stating their “working with Troy AND the Sun Belt”...

Just because you may not feel it’s beyond anyone’s control but Coastal’s, doesn’t make it so.

Again, see Nebraska. We, thankfully, don’t have Frost leading us.

Most game contracts include clauses that have outs is conference deems game unplayable.

Don’t be obtuse and think that ULM would breach an existing contract to play a make up game that they didn’t request to postpone to begin with.

ULM wouldn’t do it. No team in this conference would do it. Coastal won’t do it either.

Of course they’ll work with the conference to get it played. But if Coastal beats App and playing a ranked Liberty could give us a shot at a top 10 ranking, you’re crazy to think we will cancel that to play a lame duck game against Troy.

That would be grossly negligent of Coastal.

Now if App beats us and the conference wants to pay the bill for us to get out of the Liberty game, then it very well may happen.

It may be a moot issue anyway. Coastal has 12/12 open, but Troy has games scheduled already for 12/5 (ULM) and 12/12 (USA). I don't see how this game is made up at all.

The Conference Championship game is 12/19 (right now) - which is just 1 month away.

So I think there will not be a Troy | Coastal game this year.

So, in closing - Coastal will very likely play Liberty anyway. Regardless if they win or lose to Appalachian State.

Again, I'm sure they will work around the game if they are wanting to find a way to make it work. But to sit there and act like Coastal holds all the chips, is incorrect.

Just because you may not feel it’s beyond anyone’s control but Coastal’s, doesn’t make it so.

Again, see Nebraska. We, thankfully, don’t have Frost leading us.

Again, there is no “bill to pay” if the contract with LU already had an out based on conference needs of makeups dates 12/5 or 12/12. The contract with LU is a non-factor, it was written AFTER those stipulations were out there.

Yes, in a perfect world for CCU, one where we beat App and LU is still Top 25 (beating NC St the same week), then it’s a no brainer for the conference to ALLOW us to keep that LU game. Of course they would, it benefits the whole conference, and App wouldn’t have room to complain since we’d hold the head-to-head.

Regardless of outcomes however, we will be doing it with their OK, it’s not our call. Had the conference said “no OOC”, we wouldn’t have OOC. Had the conference said we aren’t playing, we wouldn’t be playing. If the conference insists both us and App St play the same number of division games...

No outside contract is gonna trump conference guidelines, they wouldn’t be written as such, most certainly not after such clear cut guidelines were made.

People can believe what they want, the actual concept is an easy one.

RE: #15 Coastal Carolina @ Troy moved to ESPN2
So if you go back to the announcement of the CCU/LU game, we scheduled it for Dec 5, BEFORE the conference even officially announced the 2 week pushback of the CG. The CG was still listed as Dec 5 at the time. (Was moved a couple weeks later to Dec 19 to allow for postponements.)

So a) Coastal was probably not thinking the CG would be in play at the time; b) the announcement clearly states it was the league approving the scheduling; and c) that the conference reserved the “right“ to move the CG if CCU were to be involved... not that they WOULD, they COULD.

This game (and lol, all CCU fans may be getting waaaayyyy ahead of ourselves... can you blame us?) may not matter one iota in the end... but it was/is fully under the approval/allowance of the league.

Unless Troy has ULM or USA cancel - there isn't a make up date available. I think 2 things will happen.

1. Coastal will play Liberty on 12/5
2. App State will beat Coastal on 11/21 :)

you don't know much about the history of CCU, do you?

If ESPN wants CCU/Liberty for a featured timeslot, then ESPN will get CCU/Liberty.

Regardless of what your feelings might be about it, if current trends hold that would be a MONSTER of a game.

CCU/Troy very probably won't have an effect on the larger conference race. SHould he have the option, I'm sure Mr Ellison will be smart about this and take the exposure, the $$$ and the time in the sun while he can.
