So no wager. I'll take that as respect. 03-thumbsup

You have a nice team. Well built. Looking forward to the game, assuming we play. Good luck! And btw your Wolves have been recruiting a former player of mine. Wouldn't be a bad place for him to land.

Dallas, as always, well done. Thanks! I much prefer looking forward to match-ups than discussing sports drama or politics 03-puke

Much respect.

Well I think you have a much better than nice team, so enjoy another successful season.

I posted here when you were not very good that your program could be as good as Miami's, and here you are, except better. IMO the best is yet to come for your program, so enjoy the ride.

RE: Looking at Arkansas State
I do know that if your first game was against SBC member AppSt, 13-1 last year, and ranked somewhere around where you are going into this season we would not be having this discussion. You would know that you are playing a good team.

What you may not know is that the consensus is , and has been for a few years, that A-State is the most talented team in the SBC, and they really are.

https://247sports.com/Season/2016-Footba...erence=SBC

https://247sports.com/Season/2018-Footba...erence=SBC

That is why I can say that while I cannot say you will be impressed with how they play, you will be impressed with their talent.

I thought A State looked pretty good agaiinst SMU and probably gave them one of their best challenges of the year (other than Memphis).

Not knocking their DC, he did a decent job coaching the team, but not having their HC hurt A-State. He came back against UNLV and it showed, and then the all those injuries started. A decades worth.

Still enjoyed the game and rather ironic that the two QB's Texas was down to in 2016, Shane Buechele( who they chose and did start for them) and Logan Bonner, were pitted against each other. Thought both looked good, even though that was the game Bonner hurt his hand that cost him the season, and maybe regulated him to a backup role. Football is a contact sport, and life is not always fair.

Wanted to make sure I got exactly what their HC said about their corners, and not paraphrase because that position is the key, not only to the Memphis game, but their season, and what he said their scrimmage confirmed.

A couple of freshmen from your area, that some of you might know, have impressed in fall camp.

CORBET MIMS: https://astateredwolves.com/sports/footb...-mims/4675

LINCOLN PARE: https://astateredwolves.com/sports/footb...-pare/4676

Mims could end-up in the rotation at DE, and Pare--their lowest rated recruit out of HS, has probably been the biggest surprise of their fall camp.

Do not wish anyone any ill will. But Mims must be shown the error of his ways.

RE: Looking at Arkansas State
Listening to his position coach, who called Mims a warrior, he said they already had 8-9 guys ready to play those three positions so it looks like they plan on trying to red-shirt him, if at all possible. Same for Pare and another one of your locals, DT Deris Jackson.

DERIS JACKSON ://astateredwolves.com/sports/football/roster/deris-jackson/4820

Other than CB, with the decision of their starting LB not to return this year depth at LB was probably their next biggest concern. They picked up a transfer yesterday in Justin Rice out of Fresno St. Rice was a 1st team all MWC performer last year and the pre-season MWC defensive player of the year. Rice enrolled in school there yesterday.

https://247sports.com/college/arkansas-s...150284542/

Like the CB position, the A-State coaches had already said this years group of LB's were more athletic, and more physical than they had last year, and the addition of Rice helps their depth and talent, just not sure how prepared he will be for your game.

The Fresno State beat writer posted on their website that your new linebackers coach was Fresno State's LB Coach in 2017 and DC in 2018, 2019, so he knows about Rice.

A-State also move a couple of players to LB this past spring from other positions to add depth, and while they are talented, like Rice just not sure how far along they are.

RE: Looking at Arkansas State
At safety they only lost one player so have a pretty good 2-deep returning.

Unlike the other positions where they added transfers or JC's, it looks like they are going with true freshman after them.

ANTWON FEGANS: https://astateredwolves.com/sports/footb...egans/4661

TREVIAN THOMAS: https://astateredwolves.com/sports/footb...homas/4680

JAVAR STRONG: https://astateredwolves.com/sports/footb...trong/4679

Little risky but again they are talented.

Again as a brief summary of what you can expect in game one, their offense is just flat out loaded and has above average talent and depth at every position. Should be one of the very best in G5, and certainly one of the best you will play, if not the best.

Special teams are also solid.

Defense is the question mark, and while their DL will be one of the best you will play, the other positions are a work in progress but they have a lot of talented/athletic players to cobble a 2-deep out of at those positions, and should get better and better as the year goes along, barring injuries or the virus.

Sorry I was asked by some of my buddies in Memphis that while I was at it , to up date them on what they should expect to see from A-State this game as far as any additions from last year that could make a difference.

Good prep for me as far as the forum on the the largest Razorback site about the other Arkansas colleges and universities without a pig as a mascot.

For my buddies in Memphis, your welcome!

As far as Tiger and Red Wolfe fans , have a great season, hope you win them all, as if I, or anyone else really cares.

Hope the Razorbacks can beat anyone. Just someone please!!

A lot of schools beat playing So AL & LA Monroe. Let's get some mid-level B12, B1G, ACC or SEC schools. Actually about the same level competition but with a lot more exposure.

I've considered myself as a low-key fan of ark. State. I have a lot of respect for what they have accomplished and I root for them when they aren't playing us. Im oddly not annoyed by your posts at all and appreciate your confidence in your team and your sound information. Sadly I think you are going to find out something that my Tigers did when we thought we had a chance against USF in our bowl game years ago when they were in the big east, which is that you may be good but we are just as good but on a different level. So after we beat you guys ( hopefully you can be somewhat competitive) you all can go on a tear for the rest of the season and I will whole heartedly root for you all against app.state. 04-cheers

I agree with you completely. It seemed as if our former AD was hellbent on his own job security and decided to make us the defacto SBC champs. The results left us with some of the most uninspiring nonconference schedules I've ever seen in Memphis considering how far the program has come to. Thank goodness he was fired. No offense Ark State, much respect but give me some mid level p5s that can really help boost our profile. 04-cheers04-cheers

I don't mind little cousin Arky State every once in a while.
But every year? No way.

I have no beef with ASU fans/team and respect what they have accomplished. If you are considered G5 then we are all in the same boat and should be united against the evil empire (P5). I feel ASU is a good program fighting for the respect they deserve. the media just doesn't want cover/hype non p5. Perhaps the pandemic will force their hand.

I don't doubt that. They have an opportunity to knock off a Top 20 team early in the season, a season that might not even play out very long. I'm sure they cant wait.
