Same here. I have been fascinated with the night sky since I was 4-5 years old.

Countless hours I have spend looking up scanning the sky or stargazing through a telescope. And reading everything I could find on space and the planets.

I was always looking up, most kids today are looking down at their devices 24/7.

RE: Declassify UFO data?
I honestly don't think there's anything even remotely interesting in UFO files (at least for UFO enthusiasts). I would bet most of the DoDs interest in this is Cold-War-era fears that the Soviets or the Chinese have made science fictiony technology.

As far as extraterrestrial life, we might as well be an ant colony in Los Angeles hoping to come into contact with an ant colony in New York.

Well let's face it. If alien life ever made contact with us on Earth they would be like Jane Goodall and we would be the gorillas in the mist. If we ever do meet aliens I would rather it be with us visiting their planet. That makes it much less likely that we get taken as biological samples and dissected to see how we function.

I always get a chuckle out of Hollywood that shows the Earth uniting against an Alien attack. In our world today, the Democrats and CNN would say any attack is justified due to Climate Change, Trump, racism, sexism, homophobia, etc.

Think about the vast gap between the Europeans and the American Indians. Great civilizations fell to a handful of explorers. And that was only with 15,000 years of separation, let alone a planet.

The Star Trek/Star Wars Universe where there are a lot of species at similar levels is just not realistic.

We are very lucky to be alone. We should be celebrating that. If there are alien species capable of coming here and navigating space and time in that manner it would make them as superior to us as we to worms. Unless they came in peace?...This planet's human population would be done. We would be totally helpless against such technological superiority. The movie would not be one in which we win.

We have not figured out to survive long term in space..much less bolt through the galaxy. The movie plots are fun..but totally unrealistic.

RE: Declassify UFO data?
So when the commander of a Naval ship goes on record saying that they watched some thing move from 50000 ft down to sea level in under a second and then back up to 80000ft in under a second - and he then goes into all the ways that violates Newtonian physics....that's just crackpot to some of you?

Then you also have Harry Reid on record more or less corroborating that we have some kind of thing that isn't of the Earth....you still question?

The same God that created a universe on the order of magnitude of this one - even just the parts we actually can see - can't then also create other beings?

Do some DMT or a giant dose of mushrooms and you'll never look at the God you think you know the same way ever again.

A...Not a crackpot..but..not an alien spacecraft. Using Occams razor...the most logical answer is some natural phenomenon that we can't now explain.

B...Harry Reid is not a credible person...period.

C...Sure but there is zero evidence that has happened

D...I did mushrooms in college. I saw guys drop beer cans and watched them fall slowly to the ground and laughed. I watched the walls melt...and laughed. I did not have a God like experience. I had fun.

This is the point that Steven Hawking made and I agree with him. Maybe we shouldn’t be so cavalier in broadcasting our existence out into the cosmos. If there is an alien civilization that has the ability to reach Earth then we had better pray they are peaceful because there is no Independence Day type outcome for us. We would be wiped out.

We are in a "Goldilocks zone". Just the right distance from our Sun for liquid water and life to exist and the ONLY one in our solar system. Hawking saw this as a no brainer.

I can understand the secular excitement and obsession with the topic, I was a very secular for much of my life and I was obsessed with aliens too. Mankind has a strong need to believe in something higher and more evolved than himself, and if he rejects Christ he will fill that void with something. And there is very real spiritual activity, particularity in the sky and space. In fact the Bible teaches specifically that Satan and his followers are the princes of the skies and in high places. They were cast out of the Mt of God on high (3rd heaven) and now dwell in the 1st and 2nd heavens (The sky and space).

As a Bible believing Christian, its such an amazing realization of truth that Earth and man are at the very center of the Fathers attention at all times, we are the only creatures in the entire universe that are made in His image, all the universe is but a backdrop to Man and the earth. I have heard so many secular scientists and physicists talk about how insignificant man is compared to the universe, its one of Satan's biggest deceptions to rob man of the realization of his indescribably special place in the universe and in God's. Not only are we NOT insignificant, we are the most significant and import part of all creation.

I have a bridge for sale if you don’t think there is life elsewhere in the 100-200 billion galaxies besides ours...taking the lower number of that range due to current technology limits, figure 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 stars (that's 1 billion trillion stars), factor in planets around those 1 billion trillion stars...yeah, we are all alone out in our backwater spiral arm of the Milky Way. It’s just us. Mmm hmm.

Oh the irony of these type arguments.

Ever looked up the math on the chances the universe just spontaneously created itself from total nothingness?

Just consider your laptop or phone. You could wait a gazillion, gazillion, gazillion years to the 100th power and it would never just spontaneously create and program itself. There is not a sane person in the world who would look at your laptop or computer and say it could created itself.

Yet the universe is INFINITELY more complex and finely tuned, even a single strand of human DNA is infinitely more complex and fine tuned. Yet science maintains that it all created, programed and finely tuned itself from total nothingness for no reason at all. Mmm hmm.

So the universe needs something to create it, but that something wouldnt need anything to create IT?

Makes tons of sense.

Ahhh, so the universe can create itself but God needs a creator? I don't think you thought that one through.

The Bible does not claim God was created, it says He is eternal without a beginning or end and outside of time and the physical universe.

You are trying to escape down a rabbit hole to run and hide from the fact that the universe Was OBVIOUSLY designed by a Creator.

I respect your devotion and faith. We worship the same God. I still think you are likely batshit crazy. Deep down, you probably suspect it too.

The gaps of space in between are so mind numbingly impossible to traverse. Likely even for galaxies that were created a billion years before our own. It’s likely the universe is/has been/will be teeming with life at differing points of billions of years so that it misses one another...in addition to time, it just may be so impossibly far apart to ever cross paths or even detect one another as to seem a solitary event at each end.

The Fermi Paradox and the Great Filter are brilliant to explore. As is the Drake Equation.

If they get here there are two things that are certain:
1. They won’t be biological. They will he mechanical or ethereal.

2. They won’t care at all about gold, diamonds or any of our earthly “stuff”. They won’t eat us. They will only care about learning about us. Knowledge is all a civilization that has advanced that far will care about.

I can disagree on this without all that petty nonsense. 04-cheers

I often think about what is required for a species to become spacefaring. You'd need a species that is very intelligent, that is social, that can use tools, and can record history/knowledge. Then they would need to not destroy themselves for tens of thousands of years or die off accidentally. For example a species of hyper intelligent whales might never develop into a space race because they can't use tools and record knowledge. Add in the vast distances in space and time and hopefully we'll never come in contact with anything else. I tend to take a lovecraftian view of the universe. That is, we lucky to not encounter horrifying things that are alien and infinitely powerful than us.

It’s estimated that as many as 20% of the 2 x 10 to the 22nd power of stars in the universe have planets orbiting them within the Goldilocks Zone. That’s akin to 2,000 stars with planets in the habitable zone for each and every grain of sand on the entire earth (poof...mind blown).

Interesting article that focuses not just on distance, but on time. When people discuss potential alien civilizations they fail to discuss it in terms of time. Humans have had the technology to make detectable technological noise for perhaps 125 years or so. The universe is 13 billion years old. Our corner of it is about 4.5 billion years old. The numbers of times things like us have come and gone could be astronomically high (no pun intended).

yep....observation is the only logical conclusion in my mind....and if so, they would have the ability to do such without being detected...
