The CAA would be a pretty good fit for Howard. Smack on the middle of the footprint. Other private schools and/or academically prestigious publics around the corner
Thing is, the CAA already has 12 FB schools. Would they take Howard's non-FB sports to make 11 in BB and just pass on the FB?
Howard to the NEC seems more likely, or possibly the Patriot.
If they joined CAA, CAA would just go to a 13 team football format. Everyone would play 8 conference mates and skip the other 4.
You could do a format where everyone has 4 protected rivals and rotate through the other 8 every other year.
The 5 NY/NE schools could all be each others’ Protected rivals and then:
Villanova: Delaware, Towson, Howard, Elon
Delaware: Villanova, Towson, Howard, W&M
Towson: Villanova, Delaware, Howard, JMU
Howard: Villanova, Delaware, Towson, Richmond
JMU: Richmond, W&M, Elon, Towson
Richmond: W&M, Elon, JMU, Howard
William & Mary: Elon, Richmond, JMU, Delaware
