Why, because during the interview, he basically said he wanted to help keep the MEAC together. So if anything happens, it's more likely to be partnerships until both the ASUN and MEAC expand. On the MEAC side, they could find someone to secure AQ spots and geography. On the ASUN side, they would have to find football schools to start sponsoring football.

So, the ASUN could drop their affiliation with the Big South for football, and the MEAC could partner with the ASUN for football.

Yea, I don't think he actually wants to take three or four MEAC schools, I think he wants to use the threat of taking three or four MEAC schools to take over the entire MEAC as a pooled conference office. You can then run two legally separate 8- or 9-school conferences as functional divisions of one umbrella group, but with double the NCAA auto-bids.

Conspiracy much?

It's not a conspiracy if he's the only one engaged in the plot.

It's almost word for word the UAC plan that he felt strongly enough about to publish on the official ASUN website six months ago, only using an existing conference rather than starting one from scratch. I seem to remember you being adamant about the UAC being realistic at the time as well.

The UAC would not have destroyed a current conference. Only make a 1 sport conference a core multi sport conference. I dont think his plan is to destroy any conference...

In this unique time in our society, welcoming a HBCU into a PWI conference would generate a lot of positive press

True but they can get that with a school that fits their profile in Howard (and I guess Hampton, but they just joined the Big South and were turned down multiple times).

Oh I agree it's unlikely. But with geography becoming a bigger and bigger factor, a MEAC/CAA northern-southen divison where football is played under the same umbrella would make sense

How does "keep the MEAC together" destroy a conference?

It becomes a lot more workable if the Big South is involved. The MEAC gets the schools in VA and north, the Big South gets the NC and SC schools and the Atlantic Sun gets the schools in SEC territory. They work together to take care of football for all involved.

MEAC would gain Monmouth, Hampton and RMU for football associates, but lose NCCU and SC State? (7)

Big South would have Campbell, Gardner Webb, NCA&T, NCCU, Charlston Southern and SC State? (6)

ASUN would have North Alabama and Kennesaw State? (2)

Dont see how that helps....

For all sports not just football.

There would be 2 football conferences between the 3 leagues

So long as Liberty and Falwell Jr are in the ASUN there is no way in hell an HBCU will join. The only rumors we heard were of talks with the Big South for SC State.

I always saw UAC as something to push ASun just high enough so it wasn't exactly WAC-East, and the front porch for transitioning east coast D1 schools. But, it exists at the expense of someone.
