RE: MBB Recruiting
I realize that with the ease of transferring now, Coach has to be proactive in recruiting. Still, it'd be weird to be on the team during the season knowing one of your teammates definitely wouldn't be returning (even if they wanted to).

As expected…. I don’t know if that means UNC will visit JMU during his time at UNC. Carolina used to do that for their players- play a game in or near their hometown. Not sure if they still do that, but that would be great to see. Of course he will play at UVA and Tech some so that may cover it.

We have 3 grad students and 2 redshirt juniors on the team. There are plenty of reasons to believe that spots will open up for next year. In fact, the redshirt juniors may not want to come back if they graduate. The coaches might even know that now.

I don’t follow recruiting because it is all a bit overinflated with every team getting a “great fit” for them. Nothing matters until they enroll and you can see them on the floor.

Is Xavier Joyner the best recruit for coach By? Seems like he has already paid off with one DMV signee. Find another Willie Davis and all will be happy

RE: MBB Recruiting
The recruits so far have been good- 3 last year Strickland Amadi and Edwards -
And word is the 3 incoming freshmen look good as well. I think one of those had a connection to Joyner and he a role in Morse coming to JMU so he has been a big plus for sure. I think they probably split up the region like most staffs so Andrew Wilson, Cremmins and others are likely involved as well as Coach By but good job all around so far.

This may have been mentioned somewhere else already but checking out the current men’s roster, everyone was granted a year of eligibility? By everyone returning it has them listed as redshirt and the class they were a part of last year. Example Amadi R-Fr. Is this legit?

I was under the impression that the NCAA had said it was only seniors from last year, but not sure if there was a final decision on that. In looking at it further I am not sure that there is complete transparency in what they said. I think a basketball player could get 5 years, but I am not sure that it will actually happen.

Yes, the covid year didn't count against eligibility.

Quote:For example, a D1 freshman athlete, whether they compete in the 2020-21 competition season or not, is eligible for an extra year of competition. Starting their sophomore year, this athlete competes in 100% of the season through senior year. After their senior season, this athlete’s eligibility count is 3 years and they decide to enroll as a fifth-year senior to compete in their fourth collegiate season. Upon the completion of their fourth competition season, this athlete has the option to compete for one final season, a fifth year, because the NCAA D1 had granted all 2020-21 athletes an extra year of eligibility. If this athlete returns for a fifth year, they will have been a member of the team and eligible to receive financial aid for six year, because their first year of competition didn’t count against their years eligibility.

I think the disconnect with this is that I am not sure the school has any obligation to keep them on scholarship for that 5th year.

They don't, and some schools/conferences have turned it down. That link mentions the Ivy League as an example. JMU clearly is making use of the extra year for athletes that want it though.

Haven't heard of him. Lou Rowe offer him a long time ago according to Verbal Commits?

Does he want to walk-on?

Twitter feed shows he announces at 4pm today.

Another tweet on who has offered him: https://twitter.com/jakelieberman2/statu...5507231750

I'm assuming we offered as well from your post. Nobody on that list I would really want to lose to from a recruiting standpoint.

Not sure if we even have an offer out to him. a buddy in NOVA said we may have offered, which is why I was asking
