RE: Stadiums first big concrete pour is happening now
Tickets are selling at a good rate. I noticed that all of the $950 premium seats on the west side (section 101-103) are all sold out! Only 16 seats remain on the east side 50-yard line section 125. Since April 1st, there’s been 321 new ticket accounts opened!

I imagine those will sell quickly when single game tickets go on sale next month.

I was hoping there would be more season tickets sold than what it appears.

If the upcoming season turns out good those single game ticket buyers will become season ticket holders.

I hope there will be an aggressive push toward group single-game and 2- and 3-pack deals.
By aggressive, I mean shoe-leather work, not just announcements on the website pushed to social media. Pick up the phone and network.

The premium seats have sold better than I’d hoped. All of the $950 tickets are gone (101-103). 60% of the $400 seats 104, 105, & 146) are gone, and 78% of the east side $200 individual chair-back seats (124-126) are gone.

Add in billboards, posters, and tv spots.

That’s a given but there is little evidence any of those efforts really work. There never has been. Far more productive to attack sales of tickets on a personal level.

Birmingham is a NOTORIOUS walk-up city. Even amongst walk-up cities. And known for being “event cities” which bodes well for the opener. Hell, for a huge part of the 90’s UAT was pushing, and altering, “Tide Pride” points to attract more season ticket holders. And they had a couple thousand empty seats.
Whomever said it, and tosses it in my face, regarding actually BEATING a big P5 team does have a point in that Bham also punishes the “really big event…land then really big flop” regardless of venue/or type: music festivals, conventions, etc.
We just keep doing us and we’ll pile up the bandwagon

I think, just IMHO, there's a inherent negative view of season tickets from the public - and even among most alums. And this means any sport and any level. It's like a "oh, you stuck a 'seat fee' on there huh?...fat cats just trying to pull one over on us everyday people...not enough we paid for your stadium (even though we didn't)!" Not sure how to push thru that but I'll say my dad didn't give a piss about UAB except for basketball and he would take me to BJCC for games then I would beg him to take me again. I guess that was like a personal connection it made to me and I wanted to go back again & again. Hoover can tell you I was definitely on the opposite side of the MBA program from those going into marketing.

RE: Stadiums first big concrete pour is happening now
I know all that but there has to be a far more aggressive push on season tickets and a far more aggressive approach toward multi-game packs and conversions to from single games to multiple and from multiple to season.
This can’t be business as usual, same tactics always used, and hope. This has to be an aggressive strategic campaign for that involves TALKING TO PEOPLE. Legwork. Cultivating relationships. Building bridges into communities. You can’t just say, “we have a new stadium, woopie! Show up. Give us your money!”
We get one shot in our lifetime to open a new stadium. Do it right. Don’t leave a stone unturned.
This is crucial for several reasons:
— Uab needs to have the highest season ticket base in cusa.
— mitigate the impact of weather on countable attendance
— increase the numbers of blazers boosters members to top of cusa
— relieve some of the pressure on major boosters to carry operations of the program so that they can focus on coaches and facilities.
I don’t see the strategy. Hopefully much more is to come.

RE: Stadiums first big concrete pour is happening now
UAB football had to tolerate a 30 year long "habit" that taught that one could come in on free promotional tickets or minimum cost General admission tickets and sit unchallenged anywhere around the 50 yard line on either side of the field. The only way to break this "habit" is to make sure every ticket has a specific section and seat number on it and then back that up with security persons who have the authority of law behind them. This "walk up" mentality from Legion Field may take a season long consistent enforcement to be successful because 30 year old "habits" may be hard to break.

I’m just curious, are you now, and have you always been, expecting a sellout in the stadium opener?
