From an old schooler, I agree. But, that tune doesn’t play in 2020 reality whether I like it or not. I also agree with Rod — NOW is the time to go get a couple point guards. I am finding it harder and harder to have much respect for this gaming of the new Transfer Portal while seemingly showing little or no regard for your current school. Yea, when does coach pull the scholarships and offer them to others? Or, has that become illegal and would have to be litigated?

I would guess that at least 1 of the assistants that comes on board will be bringing a player with them.

RE: 2020-21 Roster
I don’t think there is such a thing as loyalty to school. If there is any “loyalty” in this day and age, it seems to be to a coach. Hodges & Williamson want to move up, too. Their role model did it. We’re gonna have to accept the various situations and see what Shay can do this summer. I hope everyone will hold their judgment and let the rest of year unfold.

Scholarships are year to year (Big Ten and I think one other conference they are 4 years) So yeah a coach can pull a scholarship anytime they want, regardless of transfer portal.

Appears it’s down to San Diego State and Wake Forest for Williamson. I guess he is seeing wha McClung is going to do about Wake.

The twist: ETSU coach Steve Forbes left to take the job at Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, N.C., where Williamson grew up and led Winston-Salem Prep to a state title. Forbes has been recruiting Williamson hard, pitching the ties to his hometown
I think forbes will come out of this off-season looking very unfavorable with the ETSU fan base.

He’s obviously a gifted coach and a good person as far as I know. But, wasn’t he paid well for those wins at the SoCon/Mid-Major level? So, actually he was not performing above his pay grade and gifting ETSU and its fans. Yea, he earned his money, but ETSU paid out the hefty bucks as well — making it all a rather mutual business arrangement. Same with Wake Forest, even if he had of taken the entire ETSU team with him. So this loyalty to the institution died years ago — and to a guy like me, get overt it. But, I hope it doesn’t eventually backfire and ruin the college game.

Per Verbal Commits, the coaching staff (which at this point probably means Coach Shay) has been busy for this and next season.

I think it would be cool if we signed Truth Harris for no other reason but for his name. We could say “the Truth hurts.”

Weak competition and/or academics.

he was 2nd team all conference, player of the year is going to Boston University so yeah competition doesn't sound great plus I would love a JUCO or transfer.

RE: 2020-21 Roster
Bo announced he is gone to Butler.

I don't understand "it will help me take my game to next level"
You can sign to play pro ball in Europe just as easy here as Butler
We have had dozens of players go overseas. Stay here, be the "Man"
or go to Butler and sit a year and hopefully play the next (not nearly as much
as here). Don't see the advantage but Good Luck to him. Hopefully, Shay will stop
"waiting" on them to make a decision and bring in somebody who
wants to be here. We will miss Bo but 2-4 is were our strength is. We need ball handlers.

Wow. This is so disappointing. Bo is wonderful but he is not an NBA player. I cannot imagine him getting a better contract by leaving and not staying. And he just had one more year to go. Now, let us get some point guards.

Maybe working on FT and outside shot. To me just a strange decision. Perhaps a personal reason. So any news on Jalen Johnson?

Is he rumored to be transferring? Not seen anything on Jalen. He and Brewer can be some nice wings for us.

No, just a local reporter said she heard one of the newcomers was thinking about leaving. A lot of people were just assuming it was Johnson since he is from near Winston-Salem.

The next level will be the bench next season. Seems like a significant gamble — sit a year and then play up to a higher level. I assume that means the playing time he would have had at ETSU, competing against Big East athletes, and improving his stats over his last season at ETSU. To me, that sounds like a steep hill to climb if the goal is to “help me take my game to next level”.
