Glad we got UConn early. Bouknight is really coming into his own and less playing time for Gilbert seems to be helping

With out akok they aren’t beating Houston.
That said Houston has a brutal finish to the season
2 road games against UConn and Memphis
3 home games against Tulsa, UC and Memphis
They are going to be the hunted. 5-0 means they get a really nice seed.

I really thought we had a good chance to beat Houston at home with Akok... Without him I agree it's unlikely, we just don't have enough size to rebound against a team like Houston now.
With that being said, Akok had apparently tweaked his knee (I think it happened against Temple) and he hadn't looked right since. His production had been lacking since that game. The one silver lining may be that it opens up minutes for Sid Wilson, who always seems to catch a bad break and lose his minutes whenever he starts playing well. Hopefully we can have a next man up mentality and soften the blow.
Best wishes to Akok, hope he has a speedy and full recovery. Dude works his ass off and is a total gym rat, so it sucks to see him have to deal with such a devastating injury. Just one of those people you'd never want to see anything bad happen to.
Saw some discussion about how long he'll be out earlier in the thread. My guess is he's out all of this and next year, and takes a medical redshirt. Achilles injuries tend to be a year at minimum, and doubt he comes back for the end of the season, even to make a tourney run.

Didn’t your boy Penny want all the smoke before the season started? He was talking a lot for a guy that hasn’t exactly won anything. And now look at him. 6-6 in conference. Yikes. Hopefully he figured out that you can’t just roll the ball out there at this level. You actually have to coach.
When he made the statement, he anticipated a full roster. One can only hold him accountable for his statement for results under a full roster.
Still his team and his accountability. Part of being a college coach is realizing the ups and downs that come with it.
It's fair to challenge that he has had his share of hurdles (as do most coaches at some point). It's also fair to challenge that he mouthed off before he accomplished anything. Both can be true.

At the time, Penny was merely stating the expectations of many of the pundits and Vegas. Your criticism relates to Penny’s refusal to engage in coach speech. We differ. I detest coach speech. You appear to like it.

Record wise you are right about UConn on the road. But they were tied at Houston with a minute to go, down 2 at Nova with a minute to go, same at Memphis and SMU. Just haven't finished.
Speaking as a Houston fan, UCONN had no business losing at Houston. You guys were the better team that night. Gilbert missing nearly all of his free throws was the difference.

We're playing without our first and third best players this year. We've had a shitload of injuries. The whole season has been a disaster. You can't compare what we could have been to what we are now.
Stop acting so high and mighty. You guys have been a disappointment too without any problems.
A week ago your messiah had no answers for why you sucked so bad. Turmoil in the locker room, players complaining other players weren't sharing the ball. Just shut the FU.

Actually WSU has been far from a disappointment compared to the start of the year.
Plus no one on the WSU side was talking about winning titles and stuff like. Especially not a second year head coach that had yet to make the tourney.

Looks like Thamel has similar concerns regarding Penny...
"But what do we really know about Hardaway as a coach? So far, those around the AAC have complemented how hard his teams have played. There were some inspired X’s-and-O’s moments out of set situations on Sunday, creating easy baskets out of dead balls. But there’s also been that garish 40-point loss at Tulsa, a spree of losses in close games and a general feeling that the Memphis sum – even without Wiseman – doesn’t match the Memphis talent."
"With no recruits committed for 2020 and top assistant Mike Miller lobbying hard for head coaching jobs behind the scenes, there are reasons to be skeptical about the future."
